Silver oil coming from HPOP?

Just finished replacing my hpop lines and put all new fittings in. When I took the fittings out of the hpop, the oil that came out had a silver color in it. It just about looked like real real fine metal shavings. I'm talking a real small amount just a few specs on top of the oil that was coming out. Has anyone ever seen this before? I'm not even sure is was metal shavings, thats just what it looked like. I have an adrenaline hpop less than 10k miles on it.

Use a magnet to see if its metal. What kind of oil are you runing, compare the two. If its metal I'd give adrenaline a call.

I'd change the oil and take a sample to send off for analysis - the lab will be able to tell if it's metal and @ what ppm level.

Also, is the oil pressure ok?

I run Schaffers oil, I'm due for an oil change anytime. I'll drain it out and see what it looks like.

I'd get a sample - a visual inspection won't tell much other than knowing it's contaminated. You never know it might not be hpop related although it and the LPOP are high on the list of suspects.

A sample kit is free from Blackstone - about $22 for a report once you send it in. You'll need to take the sample as it drains about 10-20 sec after the oil starts draining. If you wait till you have it all in the drain pan it's likely to be contaminated enough to not get a good report.

Doesn't that special sealant for the hpop fittings have a silver powdery look to it when u break it loose?

There wasn't any sealant on those fittings. When I put that pump on I didn't put sealant of any kind of the fittings.
While the oil was coming out of the hpop, I put a small magnet in the oil, the silver seemed to pass right by it, which makes me think its not metal, but aluminum. Isn't the front cover aluminum?

I don't mean to be overly pickyish, but aluminum is metal, it's just not a ferrous (magnetic) metal.

Run some of the oil through a coffee filter to see if the silver color is indeed a particulate. If it is, your coffee filter should capture some of it for better inspection.

Good idea, I'm going to change oil today and report back.
Yes, I know aluminum is a metal. I should have worded it different, but you know what I meant.

Yep... just didn't want anyone reading the thread who did NOT know to think otherwise.

Changed oil today, didn't see anything in the oil. So I'm just going to run it.

No, because when I installed the fittings I never put any neversieze or loctite on the threads

You really should use Loc-tite 680 on rear plug, so called non-serviceable plug and the two outlet fittings. When properly applied it will keep the high pressure oil from getting to the o-rings and eventually leaking. Never use it on the IPR.

Ok I'll get some and put it on tonight. It just goes on the outlet fittings on the pump, the ones on the heads don't need any, Correct?
