Friend used my truck and the tranny lines started leaking. He added about 2 qts of Mercon V. The truck was driven about 100 miles. I replaced the complete tranny lines from the tranny to the rad and the tranny cooler. Including a new complete filter housing. Everything is new. I have not refilled the tranny yet. I have to drop what is in the pan. I ordered Mercon 20 Qts SP from Ford. Can someone give me some advise on the next move. Can I take the filter housing off and pump some out with the torque converter. How screwed to you think the tranny is. Thanx in advance.
Drain what's in the pan, put it back together, and fill it. It will probably take 8-10 quarts. That's all you will be able to get out without a hot flush machine or taking the trans out and removing the torque converter. Drive several thousand miles and change what's in the pan again.
Thank you Mark. I will do that. Tomorrow and then I will take it to have a hot flush. I see that you are a transmission engineer. The truck only has 33K on it. But its rotting away thanks to the Chinese steel. I only drive it about 3 to 4 k a year. Done the brake lines, oil pan, now the tranny lines. The diff covers are in bad shape that looks like a spring project. Thanks again.
