Hello, I've just got a couple questions I've had for a few weeks.
First off, I want to get rid of my utility bed for a standard bed. Will an f150 bed fit an f250?
Second, I have a REALLY bad oil leak. It looks like like it's coming from the Pam gasket. I have looked all over but can't find anywhere to buy a new pan gasket. Any ideas? Thanks
Juat so you know you have to pull the engine to [strike]change the pan gasket[/strike] reseal the pan.
Fixed. You can't find a gasket because there isn't one. It's just RTV. And techincally, the engine is supposed to be upside down while the RTV is curing.
Double-check that it isn't a rust hole in the pan somewhere, or, if it's a 5-speed, the flywheel cover hasn't "sawn" a smile-shaped hole in the back of the pan. Also check the dipstick base.
Except for the single-tank version, there is no "F150 bed"; they're literally the same bed.
Thanks for the info on the bed. Tomorrow I'm gonna replace my glow plugs and brakes. While I'm at it in gonna clean everything up and pinpoint the leak. I'll post my findings. And if I redo the rtv can I just unbolt the pan? I mean will it drop down enough to put it on?
No, there won't be enough clearance to re-do the RTV.
Also, are you sure it's oil, and not fuel? Diesel's kinda thick, and doesn't evaporate/volatilize like gasoline. Is the oil level in the crankcase dropping?
Rarely do the pan seal leak.i have my core engine on the stand.when i was removing the pan with the engine up side down...i chiseled and pryed for quite a while to get it off...if you arent carefull you will damage the pan.
Also check the oil rail plugs on end of heads. Could be a bad "o" ring on rear plug. Just a thought. Also like said diesel does not evaporate and a leak in the valley will run down and drip like a oil leak. Check fuel pump it is a known culprit. Hope this helps.
By definition, one can never be "100% positive" about the non-existence of something. But I have yet to come across any evidence that anyone has ever made a gasket for us.

I might be having some gasser information stuck in my head mixing it up on this one.
I coulda swore i've read about guys putting gaskets in.
You could essentially drop the pan and caulk that sucker up if it was just RTV.
would be super super super hard though.
Usually you have to remove the pans because the pickup tube is in the way for getting the gasket in.
Your probably right on this one though and I"m mixing in gasser info.
