Missing problems
Hey guys i have a 1996 7.3 powerstroke and iv noticed that after i first start the truck and go to take off after about 2 maybe 2.5 rpms it misses and blows white smoke. If you keep holding down the fuel it stops and rpms continue rising like they should and the motor sounds fine.
It only does this right after you start it even if you have been running it all day.Now I just did get it running last week ( turns out the ipr was bad) but i had sprayed some either to try to get it to run, wondering if maybe the air filter had left over either in it still.
Any ideas?

A couple of things come to mind. First off, be really careful using ether in these engines. It is not recommended. These engines have glow plugs in the cylinders that glow cherry red while you're trying to start them. If ether comes into contact with one of these glow plugs while it is hot, it can prematurely detonate and frag all kinds of internals in the engine. If you must use ether, disconnect the glow plug relay and make sure you let everything cool before trying the starting fluid.
Second, pull your fuel filter and take a look at it. I bet it is all black and if you look at the fuel in the fuel bowl (filter housing) I bet it looks dark too. If this is the case, the injector o-rings need to be replaced. They tend to blow and leak high pressure oil into the fuel, and since they're leaking HPO, you tend to get that hesitation around 2-2.5k RPM like you're describing. If you're handy with a wrench, you can replace the o-rings yourself for less than $100. Let us know what you find and if you decide to tackle the o-rings we can give you a step by step that will guide you through doing it.
