94 f150 starter/solonoid issues?
I have a 94 f150 4.9l, 5 speed, 2wd and just started having issues with the solonoid and or starter. The wife says that it just clicks. Not multiple clicks just a click. The lights don't go dim and the radio does not lose its memory. She also says that was able to jumper across the solonoid terminals and it would start.
So I told her to buy a new solonoid and still no start, not even a click with the new solonoid. So the old one went back in and got the click back. She did manage to get it started once since then. Now she calls me saying that now she can't even get it to start when she tries to jumper across the terminals of the solonoid.
Now I'm thinking battery cables are bad, and I tell her to buy new cables. Well she doesn't get new cable because the cables the parts store want to sell her don't match the factory molded cable. Is there any difference between the factory molded cable and buying a seperate cable to run from the battery to the solonoid and from the solonoid to the starter?
What about that switch down by the clutch or possibly the ignition switch?
I'm stuck working in North Dakota so I'm trying to fix this problem over the phone with her back in Nebraska, any help would be appriecated.

New battery cables are always a good investment if the cables are the originals. they dont have be axactly like ones on it from the factory, they just need to be long enough. the starter can be tested if it is taken off the truck and is taken to autozone/advanced auto and they can put it on their machine and in 30 seconds can tell you if it is good or bad. it could also be the little wire that runs over to the solenoid that triggers the solenoid which sends power to the starter. hope this helps you out.
