Stock for stock the ecoboost is faster than the 5.0.
I am sure the 5.0 could be "souped up" to put down some crazy numbers with forced induction though.
....Plus with a tune, 410 hp and 465 TQ on tap, without doing any engine mods.

I'd be happy to line up against any stock Eco with my stock 5.0. It would be a lot closer than the numbers suggest. As far as potential with mods, the 5.0 wins hands down. I don't believe a 6.2 is capable of more horsepower with a stock long block either.

You go up against an ecoboost with the exact same truck, axles etc, you'll lose every time.
A closer race is the 6.2, which will usually beat an ecoboost, but not by much.

I do love the v8 sound though, the ultimate engine IMHO would be an ecoboost 5.0.

If that happens, I would buy one.
Even if I didn't need one, I'd buy one.

Just the tvs and a tune. They drove it from up north to fl and ran that 11.2 then drove it back.

I'm referring to any factory combo. I have mine! Maybe a regular cab long bed Eco would beat it, but I doubt other Eco combo's would. I might've bought the Eco RCSB STX if it was available, but it wasn't. "Run what you brung" applies here.

Has anyone done any big turbo builds with the 5.0 yet?
What comes to mind is that article where they added a turbo to a stock gm 4.8 and boosted it up past 1000 HP.
I think they flipped the rings and studded it? that was it.

Just wondering if the 5.0 has any similar success stories.......

Here's one in a Mustang. Built by MMR (not stock inside). Looks to be 2,000HP or so. I have heard of 5.0's over 1,000HP on stock internals.

Banks has a tune for the eco boost, I think not sure but something like 90 hp and over 100 ft lbs of torque.

When the rest of the tuners get busy with the little 3.5 You will have to turbo or super charge the 5.0 to run with it.

A 5.0 with a tune will not make the power a twin turbo 3.5 will with a tune. Or out run it lb. per lb. truck per truck.

We have them at work, be it extra cabs and 4x4. The 5.0 does seem faster seat of the pants because of the instant throttle response, but by the time they reach 40 mph it's game over all eco boost.

I would love to drive a single cab short bed 2x4 Eco Boost

Stock for stock, 5.0 & Eco in the same combinations the Eco should win everytime with good drivers. Not by a lot, but a win is a win.

However, a twin turbo Ecoboost will never make the same power as a single turbo 5.0 can. The 5.0 just has so much more potential. The Ecoboost with a tune is just about maxed out. The 5.0 with a tune is just getting warmed up. A built 5.0 long block (stock engine block) is capable of 2500HP. That's one of the reasons I chose a 5.0. If I decide later to build it, it's a solid foundation! I did not want to buy an engine that was near it's HP/reliability limit. Adding dual exhaust, cams from the Mustang (to go back to the 420HP of the Mustang) Plus a tune & filter, and this combo would be wicked.

MPG was not a factor 21-22 mpg Highway is only 1 MPG anyway.

The sound, throttle response, reliability, ease of maintenance, the HP potential, negligible fuel economy & performance loss (if any, remember RCSB) plus the fact that the Eco was not available in the RCSB were all factors in me choosing the 5.0.

Show me an Ecoboost in anything (even a dragster) running 6's in the 1/4, and I will be impressed. The Mustang 5.0 I posted the video above has run 6.99. That's moving for a stock block!

Re read my post, I was talking tune for tune on each engine, I realize the flow capacity of the 5.0 heads and the displacement will make way more power turbocharged than the 3.5 Eco boost

Both engines with a tune is a different story. You would be amazed at the power the 3.5 made during testing at Ford.

Did it make as much as a 5.0 could under pressure NO, but it is a reliable engine that has not shown it's capability.

Also it comes built with a heavy bottom end and rings etc for turbocharged use, the 5.0 does not.
I'm sure a 5.0 will run with boost, I would wonder if it would last as long as the ecoboost though, that was designed to run with boost.

Oil spray jets for under the piston crowns also for piston cooling. This engine is also direct fuel injected into the combustion chamber.

I'm aware of all the tech that went into the Ecoboost. We have a 2.0 Ecoboost in a 2013 Escape Titanium (wife's car). Great little engine for the Escape. The 3.5 Ecoboost is a great engine too. I have no regrets for not buying it though. I'm just very impressed how stout the 5.0 engine is built. Not huge power from the factory in the F150, but definitely capable of big power reliably. Not trying to put down the 3.5 at all! Fact is we all enjoy our choice.
