To Snorkel or not

Trying to find whether it is worth while putting a snorkel on my the 7.3 litre and if so what about the rest of the air cleaner box , just got offer a new safari set up to suit but unsure if there was much to gain
Or am better off going with something like what " RiffRaff " sells ?

Anyone ?

Cheers

I have one on my truck but it's only for cold air intake because it's not completely sealed , you may have to do some modifications to the air box if you want it water proof.
I also have a RR 6637 intake in place which is an open intake.
What are you after an air cleaner that's water tight or you need more air flow?

I think just more air , cant really see me taking it anywhere serious bush that has deep water crossings
With the open intake , is it better to have it open or the new design that has the plastic funnel at the front for more air ?

Cheers

That's a matter of choice, open or sealed, you can use this intake,Ford AIS Severe Duty Intake System 99-03 7.3L Powerstroke FA-1759, , i think it's only good for about 425 cfm and has the front air snorkel if you do the ZooDad mod.
The AIS is available at RR for a little less i believe.
You need to use this filter with the AIS for better results, Motorcraft AIS Replacement Filter

Or you can go the open air intake like the 6637 with the aFe BHAF washable filter instead of the 6637 and you good for about 850 cfm , AFE "Big Boost" BHAF Washable Filter Ford 7.3L Powerstroke 1994-07, this with a good side snorkel will do the job for you.

I have the second option and it lowered my egt's and eot's so for me it's the choice of the two.
Do a Google search with key word like Powerstroke cold air intake and see what it brings up for you.

No It's not a manifold It's just the intake that connects to your turbo.
The 6637 is a kit this is what you get, Riffraff Diesel 6637 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke Intake Filter Kit, i think you can make all this yourself, it's only a 45 degree exhaust bend (4'') and use the intake tube you have already and some 4" clamps.
I had the 6637 kit and have now changed to the aFe BHAF washable filter which you only have to remove the 6637 and throw on the aFe Big Boost filter.

Yes you really only need the filter, i think donaldson make a water resistant filter better for open box intakes , model number Donaldson B085046.
You don't need to spend all that money when you can make the intake yourself.
If you where going to try the aFe intake look at the stage 11 that would be better , but still only good for about 450-500 cfm.

i had thought that you would still use the ' bib boost ' air filter in that set up

would it be too much to ask of you for a pic or 2 of your air filter arrangement ?

cheers jim
