Skid Plate Question

Skid Plate Question
Quick question: I found that the transfer case skid plate is missing on my 1993 Bronco. Does it support the transfer case or just protect it?? Is it worth finding one and reinstalling it? I'm not gonna be rock climbing or anything like that! (Maybe some trails though!)

I didn't think I really needed one for regular trail crawling, but put one on my Bronco (it was missing). Right now, it's about an inch higher in the center from smacking a rock. Glad it wasn't my transfer case.
I think my junk yard wanted $5 for one. If you can find one, might as well put it on.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the replys. I just wasn't sure. I think I'll start scouring the boneyards down here to see if I can find one.
By the way, me ECM should be here today. My brother in law (who has a shop) is getting it for me. I gotta get that in there to see what else it needs!

There are at *least* two different skid plates. The ones for the manuals don't hang down nearly as low as the one for the automatics.
If you have a manual, an automatic plate will fit, but will have about 3 inches between it and the transmission.
If you have an automatic, I don't think the manual plate will fit.
