2008 Ford F-250 Parking Heater
Hello,
I'm new in this forum and so first I want to introduce myself.
My name is Philipp and I'm from Germany.
My Truck is a 2008 Ford F250 with the 6.4 V8 Powerstroke Diesel, 4x4, Crew Cab, Short Bed, King Ranch.
This truck is a standard truck with no technical changes.
Now I want to install a Webasto Parking Heater in this truck.
Finding a compatible heater is not the problem. The Problem is the electrical connection of the heater.
For this work I need an wiring diagram of the controlsystem and control panel of the air condition.
Does anyone of you have such a wiring diagram?
It is very difficult to get such a plan here in germany, so it would be very nice of you, if anyone could help me.
If you need any further information I try to send them.
Greetings from Germany
Philipp

Maybe, it's the wrong word for it.
On www.webasto.us you can find such systems.
Webasto calls them Parking Heaters so I adopt it for my question in this forum.
On this link:
Webasto - Heating Systems for Off Highway
you can find the way, such a system works.
I don't know how famous this system is in the US. In europe it is standard on all vehicles with a heating system.

Trey, A parking heater is much like a diesel powered block heater. It uses a small ammount of fuel ( in his case diesel) and circulates engine coolant through a heat exchanger. it's used in extremely cold environments. Mostly used in Europe. I've herd of them and even seen one but have no idea how to hook one up.
Oh and welcome to the Forum Boogie :-)

Thank you James,
that's right.
These systems are much more comfortable than the electric blockheater because you don't need any other power supply system than the trucks own system.
There are also several system to use these heaters: with a timer, start by remote or start with an app on your Smartphone.
So it's very easy to get a warm car on cold winter days...
But if you want to install such a system you need the wiring plan of the air-condition-operating-unit.
And I assure you - it's very hard to get it here in germany.

Boogie. Dont take this as I know what im talking about because I don't but I just looked up dealers for that heater here in North Dakota and ironically as it turns out the company I work for is the dealer here. hahahaha. It's a big company and a different division but their building is only 4 blocks from the building I work at.
Go Figure.

Mr. Boogie,
What are you hoping to achieve?
Sleep in the cab overnight using this to keep you warm vs. Idle the truck all night?
Or help cab get warm faster in the morning?
I have seen a similar question about the new 2012 6.7l not being able to control the hvac systrm to open the blend door and fan..

One of the most interesting things of having an parking heater is the possibility to keep the engine warm, even if I drive only short-distances.
I live in germany and unfortunately not in the us. Driving 20km is a standard distance on daily driving.
If you only drive 20km you won't get the powerstroke warm.
I think I would have very much wear on my truck if I only drive it cold - so I need an additional heating system; 'cause I like my truck and I will be happy driving it for few years.
But if I install such a system I need a wiring diagram of the truck.

I am an OTR truck driver. Our fleet uses Bunk Heaters to cut down on idling of trucks during cold weather and keep the sleeper cab warm. The heaters use about 1/10th the fuel of a 15L diesel engine while running. They are capable of getting it well above 90F in there if you leave them on full blast.
We used to use Webasto heaters in all of our road tractors. They had about a 90-95% failure rate. They were easily to most replaced part in the fleet. It's not a small fleet either. Close to 10k trucks with about 90% of those being road trucks with sleepers.
Our new trucks are being equipped with Espar Heaters and so far they seem far more reliable.
We don't use a heater to warm the engine blocks. All of the trucks have block heaters and below 20F we don't shut down no matter what because the fuel could gel and the engines may not start then.
Not sure if you are looking to heat the interior as well, but I would look for a different brand than Webasto. Espar makes similar products.

Hey Misky,
it's very nice of you, that you are so interested in my batteries.
There are two very large, strong and new batteries installed in my truck and the alternator works fine. And if the batteries go down, you may believe it or not, I can charge them with a battery charger.
That's not the first of my cars with a Parking Heater and I already know how they work.
That's one nice feature of these parking heaters compared with the block heaters: you just need very little electric energy.
You can look on youtube. Just search for STANDHEIZUNG and you will find very much cars, even with small batteries, which are equipped with an parking heater -and it just works.
So I just need a wiring diagram of the air condition control unit.
Maybe you can help me or not.

Hello TosaFord,
thank you very much for your answer and your technical know-how.
Maybe Webasto isn't the best producer of parking heaters but here in germany we have two producers - webasto and Eberspächer.
If I install one of these makes I can find service and repair in a garage hear in germany.
If I install a product of an american brand it is much more difficult to find a specialist for service and repair works.
The spare parts are here in Germany also relatively low for Webasto and Eberspächer. Therefore I am bound to the brand.
The only difficulty is how to install a parking heater electrically in the truck.
