Back Again

Hi Guys, well I'm back with another problem. I need to find out how to replace the ignition cylinder and keys on my 1984 F 150. The cylinder locked up and I had to take a BIG set of channel locks to get it to turn and shut the motor off and now, of course, it won't turn at all. I need to find out how to remove the old one and install a new one. Do I have to pull the steering wheel or is there this elusive pin hole where I stick a paper clip in there and take the cylinder out and insert the new one ? Would really appreciate any help. You guys were so helpful on my dual gas tank switch that I knew you would know how to do this. Thanks in advance for any help. Steve

there should be a pin hole near the cylinder underneath it. you'll need to turn the key and put it in a sweet spot and then push in (probably need something heavier duty than a paper clip) and it should slide out. but if you used channel locks to turn it you may have damaged it and have a hard time.

if you ever have a problem like that again it's best to pull the wire coming from the coil on the distributor. that will kill the engine. then disconnect the negative on the battery so it doesn't get depleted. then you can dig into the cylinder itself.

It needs to be in the 'run' position to remove/install.

I'm sorry I missed this when you first posted it, was on the highway.

You probably don't need this by this time, but there are two entries for this procedure in the Sticky; here are the official procedures as per Ford:
