Build Thread: 85 F350 6.9 Crew Cab

Well Everyone else is doing it, and I want the link in my signature.

Anyway if you have been on the forums for the past two weeks you have seen all my question threads, so this one will hopefully be more of an illustration and progress of my truck build. I am not planning on putting a lot of money or time out all at once, but making a thread hopefully will keep me motivated to try and do something too it every 1 or 2 weeks and chat about it so that way my goal will be to keep it back on the front pages, if not I am neglecting my truck and someone can yell at me .

Anyway here it goes, all starting with tune up stuff... I will post some pics later.

(1) Replace Drivers Side Rear Wheel ( all new tires, but I gotta slow leak I found out yesterday)

(2) Oil/filter Change (10w30 Rotella, incase your curious)

(3) rear brakes (replaced the slave cylinder and it was working good for half the trip home after I got it out of Vermont, no I really need to press it to the ground again)

(4) rear axle seal (Got gear oil leaking from the hubs)

(5) Change left hand side studs back to right hand thread

(6) Fuel Filter (more tuning up)

(7) Run Front Tank Line (has dual tanks, and neither ran out from underneath the bed completely, ran the rear one, but the selector valve was busted and caused a whole mess of problems, so now I need to run the front tank)

(8) Noise in electrical (all my lights flicker, I think its a ground or the capacitor that connects to my Voltage Regulator)

(9) Speedo (Disconnected, but even before had no action, need to investigate some more, I hear you can fix the line)

(10) hood wiring (I will post pictures and this will be obvious) (includes adding the starter relay back in)

(11) ID front axle before using 4x4 (In progress, not sure my gear ratios because the PO swapped the rear axle, and can't find any tags to ID anything)

(12) block heater (have a freeze plug right now, and might add in a block heater)

(13) heater controls (doesnt work completely right now)

(14) tach install (wan't to add a factory tach, so I am going to be watching the junk yards)

(15) Intermittent Wiper Install (also another one I am going to watch the junkyards for)

(16) replace ignition switch (ignition switch does not require a key, nor has a key, so this is also me getting all my keys to work, doors/ignition/glovebox)

(17) Setup Dually (need to buy the adapters for this)

(18) replace rear seat

(19) Dynamat or hack a mat (need some sound insulation)

(20) Carpet (ordering this from one of the catalogs (LMC NPD)

(21) repaint door panels

(22) Fixing/painting dash (need to find another dash pad, and decide what I am going to do about the speaker grill, they sell them new I saw in one of the catalogs, and I want to leave things stock, and leave the original radio so I am not sure yet what I am going to do)

(23) reupholster seats

(24) build sides for flat bed

(25) Possibly paint job (if not now later, not sure on color but maybe red, or red with the tan stripe)

I will leave it at 25, and re-evaluate once I get some more stuff done.

Going to try and get 1 - 9, 11, & 17 done before November 16th (with the exception of possibly 17 depending on funds)

Ok guys I will post some pics later of the truck and the affected areas.

Feel free to chime in.

Devin

Here are the pics

And here is the suspect wheel

Anyway the spare is on, but I still need to figure out where the leak is, If its the tire I am gonna be pissed for 160$ a piece.

Also I had my truck parked on alittle bit of an incline from passengers side to drivers side, and could smell diesel, so I noticed that I think I had diesel coming up the fill pipe and leaking from there, Is there supposed to be a check valve??

Your pics dont work, as usual.

Also, you truck is a diesel and they take 15w/40. NOT 10w/30

Oh I didn't realize my pics don't work, I'll fix that.

[edit: should work now]

Can't I run 10w30 in the winter in New England?

I was actually hoping I could run 10w30 cause it would hopefully run alittle better, and maybe run it year round

I wouldn't run it. You engine is worn which means tolerances are more than what it started out with. The thicker oil will help, thinner oil will hurt

Add front hub and rotor swap to the list, need to get my duallys on the front so that way I dont need to get another spare.

Behind in school right now, so cant do anything to the truck, but when I do, you will be the first to know

Also if anyone has details on what Is needed to convert the Dana 50 ttb to DRW let me know, I think I just need to find some Dana 60 DRW hubs at the junk yard and pickup some dana 60 rotors at the parts store.

International speced these engines to run straight 30 weight. 10w30 is perfectly fine, these engines are not hard on oil. I'm switching to 10w30 next time i change the oil. Should help a ton in the cold. The valve train doesn't like it at 0 degrees.

Update:

LIST OF REPAIRS

(22) Paint

Got some stuff done the last few days,

Changed my oil/filter, ran the line to my front fuel tank although I haven't filled up yet and am nervous cause is not a straight shot and might be alittle to flat for it to make it over and instead spill back at me

Bleed my brakes, still not any better, so if you notice I also removed a few things and added replace rear axle, I am upgrading to a 10.25 or a dana 70 Dually so I am not going to bother with the brakes, the rear axle seals were not needed because it stopped leaking, I got a bottle of gear oil though in my box so I will keep an eye on it, I think I just overfilled it last time.

Still need to find the leak though in that tire.

Going to do the fuel filter this week before I head back to Vermont, possibly a coolant flush, and fix the speedometer if the driven gear fixes things.

Next week during thanks giving I am going to tackle up to number 16 !!

Just a check in, have a good one,
Devin

[Edit: oh also replaced fuel lift pump, need to let the truck sit for alittle bit to see if the fuel is still leaking back into the tank.]

Ujoint is back in, haven't taken her for a ride yet, but the lock smith is coming tomorrow for 60$ so I am going to move it after he leaves.

Also tested my fuel filler neck, was alittle nervous cause it didn't have a very good angle to it, also ran 3/8 fuel hose inside to account for the air coming out of the tank and seems to be alright, didn't burp any fuel out at me
