Diesel prices drop 3.4 cents

By Kimberely Lennard, Land Line staff writer

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports the national average price of diesel at $4.116, down 3.4 cents over a week ago, and 29.1 cents higher than the same week last year.

The New England region saw a half-cent increase in prices, but diesel dropped in all other regions. California saw the biggest decrease at 5.2 cents, although the region still reports the highest prices at $4.385. Diesel prices registered just under $4 in the Gulf Coast region at $3.999, a 2.3 cent drop.

The price of diesel as reported by EIA for each region is as follows:

U.S. – $4.116, down 3.4 cents
East Coast – $4.108, down 2 cents
New England – $4.243, up one-half cent
Central Atlantic – $4.203, down one-half cent
Lower Atlantic – $4.011, down 3.6 cents
Midwest – $4.101, down 4.9 cents
Gulf Coast – $3.999, down 2.3 cents
Rocky Mountain – $4.243, down 2.5 cents
West Coast – $4.298, down 4.8 cents
West Coast less California – $4.195, down 4.3 cents
California – $4.385, down 5.2 cents

ProMiles, which surveys diesel prices daily at 9,400 truck stops, reported diesel prices at $4.131 on Monday, a drop of three-tenths of a cent over Sunday and 4.5 cents lower than this past Monday.

In separate energy news, midday trading in New York showed light sweet crude oil prices at $88.30, $1.75 lower than Friday and $3.47 below last Monday’s trading. Light sweet crude is the type most commonly associated with diesel production.

$3.95 in OKC. Regular 10% ethanol gas is down to $3.04. It keeps dropping but Diesel just wont follow.

Same here, pretty much. Gas falling 5-10 cents a day, down in the $3.24 range. Diesel hanging in the $3.79 to $3.89 range. Never really tapped $4 a gallon here, though.

I've noticed diesel does a slower up and down trending, lagging gas prices by a bit.
