What could cause it? I remember reading somewhere that its a bad sign. Bit don't think I ever remember seeing what would cause it. When I first bought my 96 f350 I changed it noticing it was black but didn't think much of it. Then I read that it was a bad thing. And ended up changing it out again when I did a fuel system overhaul on the truck. Well its leaking again as I didn't change out the fuel bowl and now I am. Well no I see that its pitch black once again. Any help in what to look for?
Sounds like either algae in the tank or (more than likely) injector o-rings. If it is algae it will be real slimy. If it is injector o-rings the fuel in the bowl will have a blue / black hue to it. Not a real bad sign, just means that you need to do injector o-rings. You can do it yourself for less than $100. Check your GPs and wiring harnesses while you're under the valve covers. If they need to be done, this will be a prime time.
Its definitely not slimy. I've been wanting to do some stage two injectors on it. Guess that just means its time to do it sooner then later how hard of a job is it?

Harder on the wallet than anything. It's not a bad job, really.

What supporting mods need to be done? I've done the riff Raff air filter and have installed a diamond eye 4" Turbo back exhaust. But everything else is still stock as far as I know. Been wanting to do stage twos and a custom chip to do away with the edge programmer on the truck.
What's the biggest I could go without doing all that then. Not that I'd mind. I just gotta remind myself its a 16 year old truck with a quarter million miles on it. Buts it was my dream truck when I bought it. Now I wanna make it mine. But have people wanting to buy it all the time. So its always for sale at the right price but the more I do the more I gotta get for it. And sooner or later, (I've really done passed the point) I'm going to have more tied up in it then its worth.
You can get by with stage ones and none of the other stuff. You still won't get full potential out of them without a hpop upgrade, but it will still be like a totally different truck. Elec fuel would help a little, but not necessary with ones. An IC would be nice, but not necessary, just have to have gauges to watch the egts. If you tow heavy like I do, you'll still need to upgrade the hpop.

An important thing to have in mind is that you have to install GAUGES first of any improvement of HPs.
About what you think to get more money if you invest money in upgrades, its not certanly, dont spect that.
That's why I gotta watch what I do. I don't tow heavy very much any more. Most I really tow any more is a 12' enclosed trailer with mowing equipment. And then every now and then I get asked to help haul a 16' lowboy loaded with hay or a 5 horse slant trailer. But that's never far.
Hoping for gauges come Christmas time. Doing an axle swap from 3.55 to 4.10 this week on the back side. Running 37s on th truck so it should improve the fill of it, just hoping it doesn't drop the fuel millage to much. If I like it then ill have the front overhauled with 4.10s after I sell the truck I'm working with.
Its a work in progress unless this latest guy wants to buy it after I get it all back together. Then ill just be back to a stock 350 cclwb 2wd trying to sell it.
I really dislike that statement. If you dont put more in it than its worth what is the fun in that? These things are money pits so just go with the flow.If you mod it correctly and drive like ys got some sence it will last forever.
At least that is what i tell my wife.
Besides, who is going to stimulate our economy the right way if we dont get out there and spend some cash. So be a patriot and mod that truck!
