miss when cold

Hello all, its been a while since Ive been here since I sold my truck a few years ago (need to update my signature). I recently bought an Excursion with the 6.0 (once you pop you cant stop), so Im back in the game.

I am having a small issue with it since it has started getting a bit cooler outside. It all started at the last oil change. I changed the oil and filter, everything there looked good. The next day, she started right up, but had a severe miss that would improve as it warmed up. I noticed a few days later that my wife hadd bought 2 jugs of 10-30 and one jug of 10-40. I didnt pay any attention when I was putting it in, I happened to notice when I was taking the trash out and seen the empty jugs. Anyway, I changed the oil again to Motorcraft 15-40. That didnt help any.

I have done a lot of searching on here, and it was sounding like stiction, so I was going to try and get it by until I could afford some injectors. The FICM was replaced in 2010 and tested good, it is not coming up with any related codes, just one about turbo boost low (I cant remember the code number)

I noticed last night when driving it in the dark that the lights all pulse with the miss. Could this be caused by pulling a lot of amps to try and fire a bad injector? I have checked connections all over and cant find anything loose. The alternator is showing 14.2 volts when running. I have AutoEnginuity, so I can look at any numbers, but Im not sure what to look for. Any ideas?

Thanks, Ben

Many folks have had some improvement using the 5-40 in cooler weather. I'm not a big additive fan but there are som products that go in the oil that can help for a while. Did you use the Motorcraft oil filter? How about the oil filter cap, is it OEM style?

AE can do a cylinder contribution test to isolate injector issues if I'm not mistaken. I would also watch FICM voltages for a while along with batt, vRef, and any other voltages and do a check ride while data logging and see if anything intermittent is happening.
