New here and just bought a 2000 E-350 "Chateau" with a Quigley 4x4 conversion. So far, so good but I'd like to swap the stock steel wheels out. I bought some nice aluminum 18" take-off's from a 2005 F-350 only to find out the bolt spacing is different (170mm rather than 8 on 6.5"). It also seems like the offset on the new wheels is deeper than the stock wheels, effectively putting more wheel towards the inside of the chassis.
I have seen adapters that will supposedly allow the bolt pattern to work and provide 1.5" of spacing to move the wheel out towards the outside of the chasissis.
My question is would this be a wise/safe/otherwise prudent option? I've never used wheel spacers on any of my vehicles, so I don't know exactly what to expect. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

I have heard of people running spacers on the rear, to widen the stance to better match the front end. 1.5" is a LOT of spacer, and might be a bit hard on the bearings (lots of additional leverage if the wheels don't center correctly)
You could hunt down a set of pre MY2000 wheels. They were not metric and should interchange happily.

running those wheels with spacers still has the tire in the same relative position to the bearing, producing no extra weird forces to worry about.

I've also noticed a few newer (2010-ish) vans from the factory with nice looking larger aluminum wheels.
Did the vans change to the metric spacing somewhere along the way?
yes, the vans went metric a bit later. IIRC somewhere after 2000.
of course, the spacers/adapters can fit just about anything to just about anything else if you get the right spacers for your needs
