84 variable venturi carb

84 variable venturi carb

I just bought a 1984 351w that has a variable venturi carb on it. Anyone know anything about this animal? From the looks of the plugs it was running rich (carbon fouled). Is this type of carb worth rebuilding or should i toss it in the boat anchor pile?

I wouldn't even use it as a boat anchor- it's mostly plastic, anyways. It was too complex, at a time when american companies didn't have the technology to make it work. A Holley or Motorcraft/Autolite 2BBL will bolt right into it's place.

Holley makes a 2bbl replacement for the vv. It's pretty much a standard carb except that it accepts the throttle position sensor.
Keeps the computer happy.
