460 into 1979 F150
I have a 1979 f150 4x4 with a 400 and c6. I am buying a 1970 Lincoln this weekend with the original 460 in it. I would like to put it in my pickup. I know i will need motor mounts, rear sump oil pan, and headers or truck manifolds. Is there anything else i need for the swap? I should be able to use all of the accesory brackets on the car. The car also has 122000 miles on it. Is a complete rebuild a must. If not, what should i look at?

No replies because this topic has been covered so many times....People get sick of typing the same thing again. Anyway, rebuilding is always a good idea. You never know what kind of shape a motor is in until you tear it apart.
Do yourself a favor, and search around and see what you can find.

This is a very common swap, just search google and you will find a wealth of information, one site I found useful was project bronco or something like that. They had a list of compatible brackets and parts you need, if you just search f150 460 swap or 73-79 f150 460 swap you'll find it.
If you need sites for the mounts and ect I used Broncograveyard.com for all my stuff and they get there parts from L&L products which also has a website.

no use the stock 460's flexplate and same torque converter. The flexplates are the almost the same on 351/400 engines as it is on the 429/460 but they are balanced differently so the 351/400 will NOT work on the 460

the 351/400 flexplate will not bolt to the 460. pattern is different. 351/400 is externally balanced, with corresponding balanced flexplate. 70 460 is internally balanced, with zero balance flexplate. just use the flexplate from the lincoln. either torque converter should work. should be the same. only reason to change if you put big cam in and want higher stall speed for racing.
i wouldnt rebuild engine if it runs good. if you want to be sure get it running in the lincoln. check compression and oil pressure. wouldnt hurt to replace timing change when you have oil pan off. stock is aluminum gear with plastic teeth. also maybe not bad to pull valve covers and replace valve stem seals while you have it out. check guide wear then too.

I'd want to hear the engine run and check the vitals before I wasted time swapping it in. I have an engine the seller swore was rebuilt in my basement that I'm gonna have to tear town and check out because i couldn't hear it run. When I had the change to swap that or another all stock original engine out of an 80k ish 79 F350 that I had heard run, I went with the latter.
