Pull engine to get to oil pan gasket????
I have a 2006 f-150 FX4 and I need to replace the oil pan gasket. I need to know whether or not to pull the engine. I do not have the lifting capabilities to pull the engine and I dont have money to have anybody work on it. Please somebody give me some light. I need this bad boy replaced..

I haven't even looked at it but if it's like the other engines I've known...
I've replaced those on a couple 300 I6 and an old Chevette. It seems designers believe the gaskets will never need replacing, since you can't remove the pan while the engine is installed. What I did was to detatch/unbolt the pan (after draining oil, duh). The pan will be sitting on a crossmember usually. Then I carefully worked the new gasket between the pan and block. But wait! it's not as easy as it sounds... the oil pick-up is hanging down into the pan and must be passed. And the pan will move around while you're trying to sqeeze fingers and gasket around.
It is tedious and time consuming but can be done. Take deep breaths. You don't want to go medi-evil and ruin the gasket. Cuss when you need to. You will get dirty. Don't over torque the bolts when you replace the pan-you'll damage the gasket and start all over...been there.
Or you can pay somebody to do it.
Just re-read your post. I guess you're going to cuss and get dirty...

It's really not that bad of a job. Just drop the pass. side differential mount and let it swing down a little. Also remove the crossmember underneath the pan. I did not loosen the steering rack, but I did drop the sway bar out of the way to gain rearward clearance. Hope this helps...
