04 super duty extreme hard start condition - HELP
Hi Everyone, First off I would like to say thanks to all of you who take the time to help out and post tech info on this site, I have used it in the past to diagnose issues such as a siezed compressor causing a no start and a faulty vaccum switch for the 4wd on my 04 f 250 6.0 liter. I am currenly experiencing a long crank (almost kills the batteries) conditions that is intermittent. It seems to do it more if the vehicle sits for a few hours rather then for a few minutes or over night. Temperature does not matter. I have scanned it and have between 46.5 and 48 volts on the FICM voltage however I have not tested it with a volt meter as listed on other threads. The truck does have a Quadzilla programmer that I have not tried disconnecting. I also have a bunch of codes such as U0105, P132B,P0266,U0306,P2263,P0401, P0405. I am more concerned about the hard start rather then the codes at this time as it is pretty scary and embarassing when it happens. Also the truck seems to have a miss when cold that goes away as soon as it warms up. I am currently running shell rotella 15w40. Any help as to where to start would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Don't know where in Canada you are, but 5w-40 Rotella T6 might be a better choice for oil.
I suggest you test for FICM voltages, clear all your codes and list your FICM voltages and codes as they re-appear. How old are your batteries? Unhook them and have them load tested..... also test alternator voltage.....

I'm currently battling the same issue.
Have you tried parking it engine down on a downgrade? That reduced my start time 1/2 to 2/3rds. I'm waiting on parts to do a fuel filter swap and I just ordered a blue spring kit.
I'm looking into a fuel pressure gauge but the cost of the truck, the new parts, and refitting all my trailers to pintle ring has me tapped out.

OK - I have tried parking it on an incline and it did not change anything, I have noticed something very strange though-my batteries are good but when it acts up it will crank and crank untill the starter starts to slow down a bit then it fires - every time it acts up it does this. It seems that when the batteries get low thats when it will fire up. There has been a couple of times lately that the batteries have not charged up fully after it has acted up and I took a short drive and after that it fires right up because the batteries are not charged up - Make any sense to anyone?
Thanks for the help so far

I have a genesys scan tool that I have used to read codes and check the voltage but I have not tested the ficm with a meter. I know thet there is a testing procedure somewhere on this site that tells how to test for voltage at the screws inside the cover - is that what you would recommend?
