A little elf danced down the road full of excitement.....
"The HOLIDAYS are here! I can go run and play"
~So saying, the elf ran away and left the one who heard it say that standing in total puzzlement...
Is it really the holiday season?
In many places, the holidays have different stories about them. Tales of Father Christmas, All Hallows Even, and such. What tales do you know?

You must already be dreading the standard usual commercialisation of what are by definition: "Holy Days" in the old school way of thinking
Funny note there - HOLIDAY is in fact a contraction of HOLY DAYS into a single word...
In Australia they don't have hotels and Motels, they call them "Holiday Accomodations" instead. It took me a bit to figure out where I should stay once, when I was there on leave.
In Mexico, the closest holiday to Halloween (AKA: All Hallows Even, from the UK) is the Day of the Dead, which is a similar but different holiday on a different date I think...
All cultures and societies seem to have some particular day on which they honor their ancestors in various ways. That "Tricks or Treats" and goblins and ghouls should be a part of it isn't really a far stretch. But we hope the dead are favorably inclined to us in most cases
*In remembering the deceased, I don't think of rotting moldy bones and things - the cast off parts left behind. I see my Mom and Dad as happy spirits who have moved farther on
Certainly, they can't be hurt anymore where they are now
*He observezzz*
