55 F100 Antenna Options?

Hey guys,

I have a basic radio in my truck but the antenna does not work well and I need a new one. I have already moved over to the dark side and don't want the 3 foot tall metal antenna anymore. I thought it would look slick to have a shorty 4-10" black antenna. I can find them, but I don't know the angle of the truck base that I would need.

Any of you replace your antenna with something similar that worked? The curve of the truck is killing alot of the "easy" options.

Thanks,

Tyson

I have put one of those in a Mustang. It worked really well. I don't know about the cheap vs expensive ones. The one we bought was around $60-$70. Again, it worked really well, as good as the mast we took off.

I put one similar in my wife's Jetta when I replaced the driver's fender, and it came without the antenna hole. It worked like a charm.

Some of the aftermarket antennas come with a variety of bases in different angle configurations, you might want to check those.

I tried one of those from mid -fifty, same brand, and I was not happy with it at all, then again it is hard to get any radio reception here but my '02 f-250 seems to work fine.

In my opinion you will not be happy with that type of antenna [Mid-Fifty] unless you mount it to your windshield. The short black one you mentioned will come with an adjustible base that I think will fit your hole ok. There is no good option to good radio reception [am and fm] than a fender mounted one. You already have a hole, so I would use it.

I've leaned on using the black rubber mast antenna which LMC sells 49-0940 $14.95. Anybody used it?

Jack, I also had one of them, you get what you pay for on anything except a metal mast. IMHO aka- I did not like it.

I have a full length antenna that I have stuck under my center console (down through the center). As the truck hasn't really left the shop, I can't say how well it works.
