I have a 2001 Ranger 4.0L 4x4 with 101,000 miles on it. I went to go get in it the other day and the Air Bag Light came on out of the blue. I've drove it some since and it is still on. The light blinks for about 1 minute upon startup and then stays on solid for the remainder of the trip. What would make this come on so suddenly and is there anything I can do/check?

I see you don't have any replies, so I'll see if I can get things started.

Count & post the blink codes that the airbag light is flashing. A common problem is a under seat connector pin/socket corrosion/connection problem, but the code/s will provide a good clue.

 

pawpaw, it did, in fact, happen to be the connector under the seat of the passenger side. Before the light came on I moved the seat forward/back to load some things. I think that was what caused it. Anyways, thanks for reply and glad I got it fixed!!

 

OK, good feedback & to hear you think it's fixed.

If it returns, you might disconnect the battery & leave a door open to discharge things, then try cleaning the connector contacts with a good spray cleaner thats formulated for such, like CRC QD, which WallyWorld & most autoparts stores carry.
