Still have gas smell
I'm still having problems with a gas smell somewhere back by the tank/wheelwell, so my kid and I dropped the tank on my 91 Explorer XLT. I've heard about a "nipple" rusting out on the pump itself, but I didn't see one (maybe I missed it. I'll check again tomorrow). Anyway, could someone tell me what the part is/does that is on top of the tank, but seperate from the fuel pump. It has two hoses, one is connected to, I assume, the vapor line. The other is about 3-4 inches long, with nothing connected. It seems like it should have something on the end of it....I have pictures of the part, so email me if you want more information. Thanks.

I had this fuel vapour smell too, it turned out to be the filler neck from the fuel cap to the two hoses which go to the tank. This filler neck just rusted away. I got a new one from Rock Auto and replaced it. The Jubilee clips at the hose connections were difficult to remove - ended up having to break them apart to remove the hoses. Don't cut the hoses or they will not reach the new filler neck and fit new stainless steel hose clips.
