Exclamation I NEED HELP!

Sorry to yell. But i got your attention!

Saturday i bought a 1985 F150 2x4 inline 6 5spd.
The battery died on me yesterday and i traced the problem to the alternator. Im in the middle of getting the wiring all buttoned up but ive hit a wall. I need help!

When i pulled it all apart i noticed that some of the wires werent plugged into anything. If there is anybody local that could come help me out please call me.

The wires I'm talking about are the "sta" or stator. Of the alternator it turns into 2 wires and I found 2 diagrams one showing it going to choke and another showing it going to ignition switch. Any input would help greatly!

I think this would also be a good place to ask: 1980 - 1986 Bullnose F100, F150 & Larger F-Series Trucks - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

There are a lot more eyes on that forum than there are on this one.

Test question: Did the seller smog it before you paid for it?

CA: Seller responsible that vehicle pass smog and any late fees if tags are expired.

'Course, there's one FTE member that didn't learn from a past experience, just bought a 12 year old econo-box with expired tags, cost him almost 400 bucks to register it.

Has another vehicle bought 4 years ago with expired tags, cannot afford to register it, cuz late weight and penalty fees are now over 2 grand!

Despite being told multiple times, info went in one ear and came out the other. You can lead a mule to water, but you cannot make it drink.

I heard a rumor that if you wait seven years the vehicle "goes out of the system" and you can get it registered for a reasonable amount after an inspection. However, I have also heard more recently that nothing "goes out of the system" anymore. So I don't know if it is true or not. Hence the "rumor"

I'm not worried about the registration or smog. When I did the carfax it showed the tags were good till Jul 2013. As far as the smog I'm confident it will pass.

Thank you all for your concer! I know i made the right choice in picking thisFord truck forum. I come from a couple other forums and am glad to people are helpful here!

Tags might be good till next year but you have a pretty short window to register it in your name after you buy it. If you don't, you risk it being impounded if you are pulled over, and in the worst case, being arrested for suspicion of auto theft. I sold a bike years ago and that's exactly what happened to the idiot I sold it to.

Good luck with it.

I went through hell trying to get my new (to me)95 F250 smogged. The seller didn't have a cert but said she would pay for one. My smog guy said the exhaust had been modified, acording to the sticker under the hood. The seller insisted that it was OK. We finally took it to the state referee. Guess what? The factory changed the exhaust configuration in the middle of the model run. My truck had the right exhaust but the wrong sticker. GET THE CERTIFICATION UP FRONT, FIRST, BEFORE YOU HAND OVER ANY $$$! The happy ending: where we're moving you only have to get smogged when you sell, not every 2 years like down here.

I didn't need to smog the Bronco when I got it registered, even though a change of ownership was involved. However, I was told tha ta smog would be needed when I register it in 2013.
