hey, i've got a 1979 ford camper special with a 400-2v. the air cleaner appears to be original with the word front indicated but no decals. got a ford 400-2v decal but where does it go? i'd have thought centered on the front of the air cleaner but that would cover the word front that's stamped there. maybe the air cleaner is not original or maybe the decal faces the drivers fender? thanks

 

the decal is applied to the arch on a stock air cleaner lid.

IIRC, a "front" decal is applied to the front face of the air cleaner base

here's a pic scalped from a recent post. The pic shows the early CID decal (orange & black). Yours would be similarly positioned. The small decal next to the crankcase breather hose says "FRONT" and the other decal I believe is an Autolite decal:
