Noises and more noises
Kicking myself for buying another one of these after all of the problems I have had in the past. This 2014 is living up to providing annoyances, I would have hoped after 7 years of making the same model it would be much more refined. I have two annoying sounds - wind noise while driving on highway and an annoying whine when starting in the cold. (see youtube video at bottom).
Firstly ever since I drove it off the lot I have noticed a lot more wind noise at highway speeds than on my 2007 or 2010. Even at 60-70mph with no strong winds blowing it sounds like I am going through the dryer of a car wash. I complained to the dealer once and they told me the doors were misaligned, they claimed to fix it but the doors are visually poorly aligned and the noise continues. The wind noise however comes from the top of the windshield area and sometimes I get a howling/whistling around the sunroof. I looked at the sunroof and it appears to really dip down at the front of it. Is this normal? I seem to remember the rubber seal sitting up much higher on my previous Expy's? See pics below
Here is the noise it makes on a cold start. The noise was going on and off kind of like something is cycling and creating the noise. Anyone have any ideas? This truck only has 6500 miles on it! At about 3000 miles it was in for 2 weeks because the motor was leaking oil. Can't catch a break with these things..

Haha.. I just went to find my post and link it to yours - suspecting it was the same thing. If you find out what it is let me know.. I don't have the time to play games at the dealer, as it only happens when I first start it in the cold. I am sure I will get a face full of "that's normal" and "we can't fix it unless we hear it" and I simply don't have the patience for that. To me it seems like it is coming from something that is being turned by the belt. Sounds like a friggin steam whistle..

Couple of similar sounds I had on vehicles.
I had an explorer with a bad IAC valve, that whistled/hummed like that - but when hot
Another explorer that had a whistle when cold and for the first few seconds of driving - turns out its cold trans fluid. Once its pumped around or warms up the noise goes away. Common over on the explorer forum.
