Unhappy Warming up my truck

How long should it normally take to get my 77 F-150 truck warmed up in the morning? I usually warm it up for about five minutes but when I try to back oout of the driveway it keeps stalling. If I give it a little gas while warming up, it usually stalls again. I'm also getting a lot of smoke and water coming out of the tailpipe. Any ideas?

I would have the carburettor rebuilt and tuned. I warm up my truck as I drive it, I drive away as soon as I put on my seat belt.

well make sure that if you have manual choke, you pull it out about the length of the tip of your index finger, and if not you may need to go get your climatic choke adjusted

if you have auto choke the fast idle might be to low, I replaced the carb on my 74 with a holley, I can warm up for a few min. and go now.

My truck has no choke... Idles fine, but I live in Sydney where the climate is mild all year round so yours may vary

Since mine sits out all the time ,the only time i let it sit and warm up is to get the ice off of the windshield. Summer time i start and go. Like the others have said you probably need to do some carburetor rebuild or adjusting.

I always choke mine when the engine is cold. Manual choke so I pull it all the way out and push half way in immediately when it starts to the fast idle position. 1-2 mins there and its warmed up. If shorter than that it will stumble and cough a bit as I back out.

Thanks for the good advice guys. I have an automatic choke and it is probably not working too well. I'm also getting a lot of smoke and condensation from the tail pipe. Is that normal? And if I give it too much gas when I take off from stop signs or lights, it will sputter and stall out and take about 3-4 cranks to get it started again. I hope I don't need to invest in a new carburetor $$.

If anything, the carb will just need rebuilding and/or a small part like a choke cap, pull-off, etc.

Mine takes 30-60 seconds of nursing to be ready to roll ('78 F250/400m). After that it won't stall... I warm it up by driving gently. I did need to install a rebuilt carb (AZ) and tune-up - cap rotor, wires, suspect vacuum lines - to get it to run smooth hot and cold.
