How does the modular v-8 stack up to the greats?

To me "quality" is a moot point when it came to any muscle car in the early to late 90's. I do know the doors in my 91 LX were as thin as paper and any kind of cold side wind I had to crank the floor heat up....to me owning a fox 5.0L in the early 90's was this....the Camaro and Firebird....mod for mod and stock for stock, would hand it to any 5.0L out there....build quality be damned. And they were more plentiful on the roads then a Vette.

It's called the aftermarket.....they can even make imports sound good. I will take the 365hp in the truck version 5.0L or the 412hp Mustang version of the 5.0L in a no-brainer before any 5.0L or 5.8L pushrod motor Ford ever pushed out. Exhaust note be damned!

I'm talking about a New Stock Modular 5.0 mustang...The exhaust sounds like CRAP !!! And i heard aftermarket exhaust on the new 5.0 and it's still no better,
The 4.6L sounded way better. I'd take a Terminator Cobra over a new 5.0 any day..also the curb weight is less..

The new motor are great, but none sound as good as a Fox Body with Flowmasters. Best sounding car ever IMO.

First item, I have a good friend who just rolled 600K on his 03 E-250 5.4L. I know it is accurate and also know exactly what has been done to it. He is the second owner, my brother bought it new along with another one for his business. As far as exhaust sound, I'll stick to my 460, with stock exhaust, most of still the original 1986 system, it has a nice throaty rumble. For sound, no Fox body Flowmasters included will ever equal my 1966 GT350 with Hooker 1 5/8" primary, 3" collectors and header mufflers, at full throttle you could hear it about 3 miles away.

I think my straight piped 7.3 diesel sounds better than both of them.....just my opinion....

5.0 mod motor weighs more than my dads ford 456 which is a 428 crank and a 427 push rod block it doesn't have the torque or the hp, i would buy a POS detroit diesel before i will ever touch a mod motor.

Bringing back from the dead.
Modular meant that within a few hours they could go from a 4.6L to 5.4L to the 6.8L V10 with just a few change of tools and equipment. Since pretty much everything on each engine was close to the same (aside from the obvious)...fast transition from one to another.
This is the answer to someone on the first page whose question was completely skipped.

What do I think of the modular motor?
If it's any indicator when I chose a Vortec engine for my 4cyl mustang to v8 swap
IMO the modular motors were a downgrade in every possible way from any of the pushrod motors it was intended to replace
I however do not really consider the coyote to be a modular motor. They're just too different.
