That's almost exactly where I was before this last go-around. Count your blessings.

I don't know who the actual manufacturer of this particular gasket is, but you should be able to get it, or an equivalent to it from one of your industrial suppliers Down Under. Just search for it using the generic description, which is:

Double Seal Buna-N O-Ring AS568A Dash Number 347.

The key here is that this is not a typical round o-ring, it has four lobes (think of a four-leaf clover for the cross-section). When you have it in your hand it feels and looks more like a square o-ring.

Make sure that whatever material you use will withstand exposure to diesel fuel.

Okay Team I got my o-rings from McMaster-Carr

I just got home and it is after dark, but my McMaster-Carr o-rings were at my door. So, I wanted to give them a try on my fuel bowl and I grabbed my flashlight and screwed one of the o-rings onto my fuel bowl going as tight as I could with hand tightening until it stopped. I started my 7.3L and no leaks, so I am still running the engine to bring it up to warm temps and I will keep an eye on it. The part number that KelV gave us is #90025K557 double seal buna-N O-rings they come in packs of five and they are $9.12. I am sold on these o-rings because I messed around with the OEM bevel o-ring for an hour and had 10 different leaks and a case of the azz. These McMaster Carr O-rings do not require you to have to use a pair of channel locks and risk breaking your fuel bowl/lid. I just checked again and the engine is up to normal temperature, and zero leaks with only being hand tightened...I found my new fuel bowl o-rings. KelV many thanks to you for mentoring us and sending us off in the right direction. I like FTE because there is a wealth of knowledge on this site.
Thanks again...the colonel.

Awesome, glad it worked out! I share your frustration, nothing more maddening than getting blasted in the face with 70 psi diesel when you have much bigger fish to fry. ESPECIALLY with OEM stuff.

Now hopefully you will have the same continuing results I had, "set it and forget it"!

I just want to resurrect an old thread that has become germane to my truck...it's leaking at the fuel bowl lid! I took it off and put silicone grease on the gasket, smoothed a coupla' ridges out on the lid and tightened with a wooden drift and a bfh. Good, so far. I also ordered 10 of the "square" orings from mcmaster-carr. Thanks KelVarnson

I also ordered ten of the square o-rings...

Here is where I am at with faulty equipment. I am an Army Colonel and if I allow faulty equipment to be put in a 2.5 ton or 5 ton army trucks that are carrying troops and the truck breaks down and the taliban shoot and kill the troops then I am not doing my job by forward thinking and trying to work thru fubar's before they happen. I like my 7.3L PSD, but that Ford OEM fuel bowl gasket does not meet the standard and is sure to leave you stranded in some gawd awful place. I will give you additional reports on my McMaster-Carr gaskets, but they are working great. Thanks.

Just ordered a pack of O-rings. I'll report back with my results as soon as they land / I install one.

This one is not a lobed (double seal) o-ring, but it is the ultimate material - mil-spec Viton. Same dimensions as the lobed ones from McMaster-Carr. This one is also a little more costly, as you would expect from Vition... $9.13 each.

HOWEVER... here is a much cheaper supply of the mil-spec Viton in the same dimensions for only $2.69 each, ordering in quantities of two at a time. To get the correct price, while referring to the Material Information and Size Information charts, the size required is "-347" and the Material is 75-durometer FKM (black and brown available, but black is slightly less expensive). Since the minimum order quantity is only $5, you can order as few as 2 at a time. Again, though, these are round o-rings, not quad-lobed double seal pieces.

Placed my order yesterday (Monday) and received the O-rings today. I ordered the same ones KelV did.
I hope to swap my leaker out tomorrow.

Those o-rings are bad to the bone...

I have had zero leaks since I installed the Mcmaster Carr o-rings. They are far superior to the Ford OEM o-rings.

I also purchased a round viton o-ring in the same size at the same time I got the quad-lobe ones. I never got around to trying the round viton one, because the quad-lobe worked perfectly from the get-go.

So far, I haven't had one of the beveled OEM o-rings leak either, and that's on about 11-12 filter changes in the past 6 years. I think I might get a couple of the Viton o-rings and a small pack of the lobed units just to have some known good options as emergency backups.
