Got the 47 home and started taking her apart. I'm posting some shots of the frame and hopefully you can tell me what's been done to it. I'm still not sure what all I'm gonna do but I am leaning towards Mustang II front end and a four link in the back....but not sure. Looks like they boxed in the frame here and there...should I do that to the rest of the frame?

I'm getting him to do as much as possible. He's getting better with the tools and knows where they go when we clean up. He can't handle the grinder...just not strong enough. Also when it come to any chemicals....he just doesn't need to be enhaling that stuff right now. I'll do the toxic stuff when he isn't around.

Great job 47Z-Rod. I have a 47 that I am getting started on. My 7 year old grandson ask if we are going to work on it everytime he visits. We tackled a flat on one of the dry rotted tires last weekend. I let him hand me tools and hand thread the lug nuts back on. We had a blast. I agree with the chemicals. I had him go outside while I sparyed the Kroal Oil on the rusty bolts. Keep up with the posting. I will be checking back to see your progress. Thanks and good luck.

Passenger side seam...

With the cab tilted up, here is the passenger side lower front section of the cab...

Driver side drip..

Not sure how to approach the rust problems at the seams. I can easily cut the metal out but I don't know how to make the compound curves in the metal...curving in two directions.

I'm thinking of taking the wire wheel on the grinder and remove as much rust on both sides of the metal...treat the metal with some kind of rust converter and epoxy prime it.

...then use fiberglass on the inside to provide strenght and maintain the curveature...and either use all metal filler or kitty hair filler on the outside.

If i replaced the metal and it did not match the curvature, I'd have to build up that curve on the outside with the same type of fillers.

With the first approach, I would have less filler on the outside.

thoughts?

Took the plunge and cut off the seam between the roof and the rear of the cab. The seams was badly rusted and wide open in many places.

I plan to weld the area together to make a smooth transition between the two panels. I just couldn"t figure out how to rebuild those seams to create the same contour.

I got these clamps from HF. I'll need to do more fitting and clean the metal up before I start welding.

What is wrong with this? What is supposed to be in the rear corner? That is the garage floor you are seeing. Am I missing metal there? What should it look like?

thanks
