I was under my truck today (1966 f100 2wd) and noticed the driveshaft yoke looks like it's sticking out pretty far. Seemed unusual to me, is this something I should be concerned about?

Is there any up and down play on the shaft? That u-joint looks like it needs a good greasing.

 

no problem with the shaft it is plenty long enough it just has that much movement to allow you to have a good distance of travel

 

Without grease, the yoke will get scored, howl like a Basset Hound. The u-joint doesn't look like it been greased since "Tricky Dick" was prez.

If no Zerk (grease) fitting present, there may be a rubber plug in the hole it threads into. This was Ford's better idea: "Lifetime Lubrication." Lifetime, till the warranty (2 yrs or 24K miles) ran out!

Get yourself a grease gun, lube all the fittings. Zerks and grease gun, cartridge of grease available from any autoparts store.

With a two piece driveshaft, all three u-joints are the same, have two different sized cups.
