Most of our trucks have flywheels already drilled for the 11" clutch as opposed to the normally stock 10" unit. The clutch kits [clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing] cost about $25 more and you have to use different mounting bolts, but in my opinion, you get a much more durable unit.
The 11" was used in the larger trucks equipped with 4.9L engines.

thanks....durable is what we are going for.
where can we find the larger and more durable clutch packages??
Any of the parts stores have them. Sachs and Luk are two of the top manufacturers. I got my Sachs package from O'Reilly's. Paid $109 for a clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing. Could have gotten just the clutch itself for $108. Didn't take me long to figure it out.

Ah, some answers to a question I was eventually going to ask for Frankentruck. Thank you to both of you!
Has anybody had any luck with Centerforce clutches and throwout bearings? I wasn't sure if the extra price for them would be worth it or not.

thanks again!
I personally have not heard of either of those two brands ( Sachs and Luk), but then again, I do not do clutch or tranny work, this is a home project.
In our neck of the woods O"Reillys tends not to carry the better brands...& we are not too keen on the prospect of going in there & do it again again theme.

^ as for Yaga1973...these I have heard of....& Have the same thought...but like all things, some companies items are best suited in different applications...not that they have "bad product" or anything ...just not that particular companies best suited application.
so what about Hayes or Zoom clutch packages?? any feed back on those?
I also have a clutch kit from O'Reileys and it has been good to me. The only other brand i have run was a ZOOM clutch for my 390. That thing was alot grabbier then the one I currently have in my F250.
Some say bad things about the various parts stores, but it really boils down to the people who work there. All of the stores can get good parts, and most of them carry a line of cheap parts. Most, if not all, of the employees in the local O'Reilly's know their stuff, and some have been around the parts business for decades. They have steered me right many times when I've asked for their input, and I appreciate it.
But, if the employees don't know the business and don't have decades of background then the computer systems they are using can cause problems as it doesn't provide info on other parts that might/will fit. So, we, the buyers, have to do a lot of research. And that's where O'Reillys has really shone - they ordered in several clutch kits for me to measure and took them all back with nary a word. I finally found the one I was looking for and bought it from them.
Centerforce, IIRC, came up through the hot rod ranks, meaning it is set up for high performance, and has been very well thought of - but expensive. Zoom was/is similar but not as expensive. But, one problem with high performance is the tend to be able to handle a lot of power and can be grabby in day-to-day driving.

Agreed...key to any parts store...is the quality of the folks behind the counter, no doubt! It is great that you have those where you are.
I appreciate the good feed back and we'll assess the end use of this Ole truck and I'm sure we'll get a good fit to our need, now that we have better insight. thanks again
Oh...1 more thought/question.....Are the clutches (or transmission for that matter), different, if, this gets turned into a 4x4??? this is another possibility
