Radio in my 59
#17
Ya gotta be careful turning on vintage radios that have sat for a long time. Reason being that ol' tube radios oft times have wax capacitors in them. The wax dries out , capacitor (who's job it is to protect the tubes)fails, takes out the tubes with it.
however a good vintage radio guy should be able to fix ya up. Nothing nicer than the rich sound given by tubes That's why so many musicians insist on tube amplifiers.
A 61 Chrysler I recently completed a refinishing and interior on here had the "Golden Tone" radio with the underdash record player in it and further optioned with front & rear speakers boy what a nice vintage sounding set up. nuther cool accesory he installed is an underdash fm converter box and fm coming thru that ol tube amp sounds pretty nice too.

I have purchased both a correct radio, and a "radio facts" sheet for repairmen from that era, with the intent of having it modernized to be installed later. Also, another member provided me with the paper template that dealers used to lay out and install radios on the trucks that came from the factory without them.I'll likely never install it, as it's a lot of money just to have bragging rights. As is,my glovebox mounted am/fm/cd player does just fine.
