Will Ranger rims and tires fit in a 1992 Aerostar Sport?

Hi, I have a 1992 Aerostar Sport. I was wondering if i could use Ranger rims and tires. Is the bolt pattern the same? Will they fit inside the fenders, or without conflicting with any other part? Thanks!

The bolt patterns are the same, but the Ranger may have bigger and wider wheels, depending on the year. If you don't go with overly wide tires on the bigger wheels, they should fit in the wheel wells of the Aerostar. Something like a 215/65/15 is about the biggest size you want to go with.

You can run up to 17" rims with 205/60/17 tires, You have to check the tire makers specs for tire height and how wide it is on the rim.

The normal tire 215/70/14 is

Height 25.7"
8.4" wide on a 6.5" rim.

You have to be sure the rim you get has the 5" offset. That is measured from the back to the center hub. then it needs the 1.5" from the front to the hub.

The hub center needs to be the right size for the bearing spindle to fit too.

Thank you for the answers. Hopefully i'll find some wheels from a Ranger at the yunk yard that fits my Aero. I just want to make her look a little higher. Besides i never did like her original rims, too small. Thanks again

The yard is the place to buy them. I found the 17" rims look to large on the Aerostar, 15 or 16" look just right.

Here they will sell a whole set of Aluminum ones with ok tires for $120.00

Hi again, I decided to go with a set of 2001 mustang rims that i already had. They are 15" x 7". The backspace is 5", half an inch more than the original. Right now i have a set of 215/70/14 tires on my original rims and my finger only goes half way between back of the tire and the upper ball joint. I would say that there is only about half an inch clearance between the tire and the ball joint. What is the widest and biggest tire i can put on those mustang 15 " rims? I tried one rim without the tire on the front and it fits ok leaving about (again) half an inch between the back of the rim and the ball joint. On the rear i have plenty of room. My concern is on the front. I'm hopping i dont have to use a spacer. I will apreciate any any imput!

You can use 215\60\15 Michelin tires at 25.4" high on a 6.5" rim which comes out to 8.5" wide on the rim.

Usually the taller the profile, the narrower the tires end up. So the 215/60 will be slightly wider than the 215/70, even though they are both nominally specified at 215 mm wide. That width is supposed to be the tire's widest point. The taller tire will have a rounder profile, while the shorter tire will be more square, so its corners will protrude more.

I finally bought the tires. i bought two first though. I got two 215/70-15 and they fit perfectly on the front and rear. On the rear i have more room if i wanted something a little bigger. I saw a 235/75-15 tire that looks awesome and i think they would fit on the rear. I did the math and they are only 2 inches bigger in diameter and they should fit with no problem. But there is only one way to find out. My only concern is that i often load the van with stuff and if the tire is too big and there is less room between the tire and the roof of the fender it may rub. I dont know what to do. Anyway, i just wanted to share this.

Check out this site: 1010 Tire Size Calculator.

I have 15" Ford Explorer rims on my Aerostar. They are steel rims.

They sometimes rub the fender lip when I go over a big bump at too high speed. But that is very rare.

I avoid getting to far from factory hieght tires, they tend to throw off my speedo and I'm not going to regear my tramsmission speed sensor. I also like to rotate my tires one reason I have 5 fullsize tires the same size.

Smile 15in wheels

I've had these '99 Explorers on mine for approx 8yrs now and using 215-70-15 tires brings the overall diameter really close to stock, keeping the computer etc happy.
The look as well as the ride was a big improvement and they don't rub with new shocks

I have the exact same rims and tire size. I originally purchased them for my previous 1997 Aerostar Cargo van because it was becoming more and more diffucult to find quality replacement tires. The factory stock tires were 215/75R14.

After I bought a 1993 Aerostar Sport XL to replace the crashed 1997 Aerostar Cargo van, I noticed that the 1993 Aeorstar has different factory tire sizes (215/70R14). The sidewall height was reduced from 6.34" to 5.92", which reduced the overall diameter from 26.69" to 25.85". The 215/70R15 tires worked well with the 1977 Aeorstar Cargo van as they were only about 1/2 % difference in diameter from the original factory tires. But they still rubbed when going over big bumps. I think the reason they rubbed is because the Explorer rims offset is more outward, and it is noticable by eyeballing them on the front wheels.

It seems to me that the best tire size to replace the stock 215/70R14, is 215/65R15 on the 15" Explorer rims. Although, I still expect them to rub the wheel well occasionally because the Explorer rims have a more outward offset.

Other than that, most people are so very impressed with the appearance of these steel wheeled chromed insert Explorer rims on my 1993 Aerostar.

The main thing I like about the 15" Explorer rims is the availability of tires! I don't care if they rub now and then a little bit when driving over ultra extraordinarily huge and unnecessary speed bumps.
