1970 f600 louisville distrubitor problems

If your '70 is OEM equipped, it is a FT engine. Related to the FE, which is what your distributor probably fits.
As for size, I'll guess a 361. Could be a 330, maybe even a 391. Only way to tell is to look at the VIN and data plates. And even then, a check of the stroke is in order to tell the difference between a 361 and 391, and you have to check the bore to tell the difference between a 330 and 361.
I say that because your engine could have been replaced several times over the years.
Also, a Louisville is not an F600, but rather part of the "L" series of trucks.

Distributors
Distributors designed for a FE will not work in a FT block. FE distributors use a smaller oil pump drive and the end of the shaft where it sets in the block is smaller in diameter. If you want electronic ign change the origional dist. to a Pertronics unit To use a FE dist in a FT block a bushing must be installed and a fe oil pump and drive shaft must be used. FT distributors cannot be installed in a FE block!

4th digit of the VIN is the engine code. 1966/78 FT engines: C = 330 2V M/D / D = 330 2V H/D / E = 361 2V (1976/78 or 361 4V) / F = 391 4V
B8AZ-6A618-A .. Dizzy Driveshaft / all 1958/76 FE engines / 1964/78 330 2V M/D FT engine.
C4TZ-6A618-A .. Dizzy Driveshaft / 1964/78 330 H/D, 361 & 391 FT engines.

its running update
here is what I did
replaced with a new 390 oil pump and drive rod
installed dura spark dist checked all lengths and diameters they are the same sizes
used a gm hei to control it an edelbrock carb and air cleaner with an elec fuel pump
I timed it at 5-7 degrees
runs great compared to how it ran before it caught on fire night and day
the advance on old dist was stuck and was not advancing back fired and started the carb on fire burnt wires
this is a real good conversion no more points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
