OK - here goes.

The oval window in the front of my bed is missing. You can kind of see half of the oval window in the top middle of this picture:



I need to get the rubber gasket that holds the glass in place but don't know what it is called and where I can purchase it. (? A glass shop ?)

An example of the gasket holding in a window can be seen in the doors in the next picture:



Your help in the name of the gasket-like rubber piece and where it can be purchased would be appreciated.

I'd guess that's a generic window gasket. I'd start at an auto glass shop and go from there.

i would goto whom ever built your service body.... another place to maybe try and call is "truck Depot" there in van nuys. they purchase repair and resell used work trucks, they could point you in the right direction.

p.s. im curious on how you have a car license plate on a truck....

 

Thank you for the referral to Truck Depot in Van Nuys. I'll give them a call this week.

The service body was built in Washington for an electric company that did work for the local utility companies. I suppose I could give them a call to see about the window gasket material.

Not sure about the license plate. It was there before I bought it and that's how I registered it with DMV after I purchased it.

I didn't realize these trucks had license plates different from cars. I guess I've got another research project.

 

heck the mfg. of the body may have the glass too they can ship to you.


on the license plate, usualy all pickups and trucks, big rigs, etc have plates with just one letter then numbers. trailers have two letters with numbers on there plates and cars/ suv's have three letters and numbers.

 

If a truck has a permanently attached camper shell or slide in the bed camper, or a camper mounted to frame rails, it does not require commercial plates.

However, this is a service body, not a camper. A sneaky so and so passed it off as one to avoid expensive to register commercial plates (2012: renewed tags on 2011 oversized tub in sig pic: $325.00).

If a cop sees that non commercial plate, finds a tool inside, be prepared to pay a big buck fine!

btw: Tonneau covers don't count. I found this out the hard way after salesman said: "Just install a tonneau cover, then you won't need commercial plates." Car/truck sales peeps lie like rugs, this one was also clueless.

I've had the same DP plates since 2001. When installed on a truck, they automatically become commercial plates. Welcome to California!

 

An RV parts supplier may also have that gasket material in bulk. Trailer windows are held in place similarly.

 

To close the loop on this, I picked up dual channel rubber window moulding from Skaug Truck Body Works in San Fernando.

I had originally called asking what the product was called and where I could source it and the owner said he had an old box laying around that he hadn't used in 20 years. He gave me what I needed at no charge.

I'll source the window material (probably from Gavrielli Plastics in North Hollywood) and post a picture when I'm done. I was going to use tempered glass but there is just no reason to do so since I can't see out the rear view mirror and I'm assuming plastic will hold up to stuff bouncing around the bed better than glass.
