Man, the things we have to do to meet other FTE'rs. Well, he has to meet us if he ever wants to see his trailer alive again cause he needs us to get thru the gates & dogs.

Seriously, we didn't do anything that I know any of y'all wouldn't do. Those guys that were willing to drive a couple hundred miles to help out are the ones that deserve the kudo's.

Lets hope the truck repairs go as smoothly as picking up the trailer did.

Hey Joel,

Do you have any idea about how many of those miles were towing miles?

Seems like a coolant "level" alarm could prevent such disasters....

Why not?

If the alarm went off as soon as the level decreased, you'd be able to pull over safely and shut down the engine before damage occured.

As long as the oil was changed, I doubt any real damage would occur.

Who is to say that low coolant caused the issue?

Well I don't think it was low coolant, but the oil mixed with coolant that caused the issue.

So, I checked the oil. The oil level was literally half way up the dipstick cable thing, about 16" above the tip!

So, I looked all over the engine compartment, undercarriage, found and smelled nothing out of the ordinary.

I took a fuel sample and placed the bottle in the bed of the truck. It was sparkly clean.
Sounds to me like coolant leaked away into the engine oil.

I have not done the math in a while, but if I could, I would look at all my stored trailers in the truck dash and add up the miles.

Last time I checked, it was 85%.

So, whatever that is out of 122,000.

Late to the game but I'm very sorry to hear about your issues. Knowing you're always on the road and usually pulling, that's not fun but I hope you're taken care of.

When he gets his truck back he can check. Truck tracks towing miles (at least miles with a 7 pin hooked up).

No news today. I had my service manager from my home town call over ther, he told me they pretty much have the vehicle torn down, engine almost open, ready for a Ford inspector Monday morning.

They won't tell me anything else about what they have seen so ar, just that the oil sump was full of busted metal parts.......

And yes, coolant went somewhere, they won't say where, but it has to be in the oil. Remember, I had no smoke out the tailpipe at any time, and, no warning at all. Engine oil temp was at around 200 like it always is, whatever happened was quick and bad.

Question is, did the coolant go into the oil before the engine broke? Or, did the engine self destruct leading to sucking coolant into the crankcase?

Also remember, there are two cooling systems. The cooling system that handles EGR is in-tact. It's the primary system that went. Secondary is completely normal, it handles transmission, EGR, intercooler, fuel. (I think, it's in the book in the tech folder).
