3/4 ton coil spring axles

I am looking at a set of axles for my e250 4 x 4 conversion project and I ran across these

"77-78 Ford high pinion coil sprung 8 lug Dana 44 front axle 4.10 gears. And Stirling 10.5 full floating rear axle matching 4.10 gears. Excellent condition well maintained 800.00"

I was unaware that Ford actually made coil spring 3/4 ton axles in this era (I thought only 1/2 tons were made with coils.. and that the owner may have converted these).. I thought 3/4 ton and larger were all leaf spring.. can someone educate me please?

What might be interesting about these axles is they might just bolt right in with no modifications

The van will not be used for severe duty four wheeling... just fire road and wet weather stuff

1966/76 F100 4WD, 1975/79 F150 4WD have front coil springs.

1959/65 F100 4WD, 1959/79 F250 4WD & 1979 F350 4WD have front leaf springs.

F250 4WD "High Boys" (thru 1977 before serial #Y20,001) use different leaf springs than "Low Boys" (1977 F250 4WD from serial #Y20,001, 1978/79 F250 4WD).

1973/77 F250 4WD High Boys: Optional Power Assist P/S. TWO different types, the parts do not interchange! Garrison: 1973, 1974 before serial #T80,001 / Bendix: 1974 from serial #T80,001, 1975/77.

1976: First year Power Disc Brakes were available with 4WD.

1953/79 F100, 1975/96 F150, 1969/74 E200, 1975/2013 E150, some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle.

1953/98 F250, 1967/98 F350, 1969/74 E300, 1975/2013 E250/350 have 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle.

F150's went to metric wheels in 1997, F250/350 to metric wheels in 1999, but no Econoline has metric wheels.

Pathfinder converted Econolines to 4WD. All the parts came from F250 4WD's except the draglink, which came from a GM vehicle, what I don't know.

Pathfinder (long out of business) provided owners with a manual that listed all the part numbers. Some peeps lost it, p!ssing off this partsguy who then had to compare old greasy parts with new parts.

Draglink didn't match and when doing these comparo's, worked (1975/85) for Crenshaw Motors Ford, the worlds 2nd largest stocking parts dealership, so we had all the parts to do the comparo's.

Quadravan was another company that converted Econolines to 4WD. I never met anyone that owned one, so I know nothing about them

You are irreplaceable

so Bill... the P/O must have put 8 lug hubs in them.. which if they are the correct 44 housing they may still be the same diameter as the f250 housing... 3 inch with 1/2 inch wall tubes... if they were f150 axles..which I suspect they might be.. then they should be 2.75 inches 1/4 or 3/8 wall

Its still interesting as they would be potentially a bolt on... from looking at the pictures of them they appear in good condition.. with poly c bushings

Its worth more investigation
