F350 CC Steps on X?
#7
The wheels are 20x9 with a 4.53" backspace and the tires are 295/65/R20 Nitto Trail Grapplers. Long story short.. When I looked at the actual dimensions of the 295/65 vs the 35x12.5 the 295/65 was a true 12.5 wide and about 35.6 tall (if I recall correctly) whereas the 35x12.5 was actaully 13.5 wide and 35.4 tall. I was worried the extra width at 13.5 would give me a spring rub issue. So I opted for the slightly taller and narrower E rated tire.... I'm no where close to my leaf springs at full lock but I get a slight rub on the inside of my fender well when I'm about at 2/3rds turn and the shocks slightly compress. We are talking fractions of an inch as the issue... I expect once the tread wears down just a little the problem will go away. Hope that helps even if it was long winded!

No. The OEM factory steps do NOT share the exact same length. (Sorry, but facts are facts.)
Ten years ago, I removed the CC steps from my crew cab, precisely because I wanted the longer steps of the Excursion. The Excursion steps are about 6 inches longer (can't recall exactly, and can't remeasure either, since I gave away my crew cab steps).
I changed my crew cab step to the Excursion steps because the OEM crew cab step didn't extend far enough back to be useful for the rear door, in my opinion. People don't step up to the door hinge. They step up at the door opening. I felt there needed to be more step at the door opening, which the Excursion step provided (along with lights).
At the time (2000-2001), the Lariat LE crew cab steps also had lights, but I still wanted the longer steps of the Excursion. So no, they are not the same length.
However, they ARE the EXACT same bolt pattern on the brackets, and use the same number of brackets per side (five). They also only come with two bolts per bracket, so I kept my bolts and reused them along with the bolts that came with the Excursion running boards so as to have four bolts per bracket.
That all being said, I don't believe the Excursion ever came factory equipped with the nerf bar style tube steps (oval tube, round tube, plastic covered tube, and other designs that only use three brackets per side).
If the Excursion ever did come with nerf bar style tube steps (that were not dealer add on accessories), then I cannot speak to their length. But I can speak to the factory Excursion steps, since I have three sets of them, two of which are available for trade (my tan for your black/grey).
And I can say with absolute certainty that the factory Excursion plastic steps are indeed longer than the factory crew cab plastic steps.

i'm not talking about the plastic boards.
04 CC chrome tube step bars and 04 excursion chrome tube step bars and they were exactly the same length when i measured and installed a set on my old '04 Ex.
the excursion was offered factory with chrome tube steps in '04 and '05. thats what i'm talking about!

AlaskaEX... your facts make perfect sense to me now.
Like I said, if the Ex ever came with nerf tube steps, I can't speak to those. I'm glad I spouted my facts, so that I could learn yours. I had no idea that the 04-05 Ex came with tube steps. No wonder the steps on Jarhead97's Ex look so factory. Hmmm, tempting, but I stick with the closed back plastic boards, as I'm too afraid my foot would slip through the open gap. My foot seems to find it's way into the darndest places. (Like my mouth?)
