Do either, they're different ways of doing the same thing.

Alarm goes off randomly( $5 software forscan.com)

There is a forscan software available for under $5 its made for fords only ,it close to the dealers software. For all OS I use the android w/Bluetooth elm 327 obd2 you pull up gem module and it shows the last three alarm events that triggered, it showed my right rear door went off 3times.so u know were the problem area to concentrate on,so I sprayed wd40 on entire inside mechanism.

Just noting
Check pictures in post 19, the issue is electrical (the wires burn into) & not a mechanical issue.

For scan will show what triggered the Alarm,hood/trunk _lift gate/doors.mechanical switch or wireing ,something has to trigger the gem module.you can open and close the door and it will show u open /closed on screen, see the YouTube video I think its muckulto or something like that, that's what sold me on forescan.good luck it drove me nuts!!!

Smile 2005 Escape Alarm Issues

If like me you have had issues with the alarm going off randomly try this to solve the problem, it worked for me. You can adjust how your doors unlock with the remote. Mine were set for the 2 step feature, pushing the unlock button once to open the drivers door and twice to open all the doors. You can set the remote to open all the doors with 1 push of the unlock button. Push the unlock and lock buttons simultaneously and hold for 4 seconds, the parking lights will flash twice to indicate you have switched from 2 step unlocking to 1 step unlocking. This information and instructions can be found in the owners manual. Once I made this change my alarm has not gone off for no reason since, it has been 5 weeks now. To me this makes no sense why it worked, I was grasping at straws trying to fix the issue. I oiled all the locks with penetrating oil, engaged the child locks on the rear doors, disconnected the hood latch sensor, all with no change to the alarm randomly going off. I re-attached the hood sensor disengaged the child locks and simply changed the unlock setting. Could it be coincidence or a combination of all my attempts to fix the issue I don't Know. I would hope that someone else tries this to see if it works for them and reply to this issue for future use in resolving the problem.

It didn't seem to solve my problem. It's cold out now and it doesn't seem to go off. I've been leaving the car unlocked so that it doesn't go off.

05 FX4 Anti Theft Light flashes while driving

My anti theft light will flash randomly while driving. It does not stall, the only thing I have noticed is if I have overdrive off, it will go back into drive. The heqdlights also seem to dim very slightly and i can hear a change in the airflow through the heater/defrost. This all seemed to start after I had the transmission rebuilt about a year ago. Any suggestions/comments welcome.
