1958 ford f100 engine swap

hey everyone
I was looking into buyin a 1958 ford f100 2wd with standard bed... it has a 391 in it right now fresh rebuild but my research shows the 391 is pretty much crap if you want to do any performance upgrades.. so i was wondering what v8 would be an easy swap? 351? I would like to swap my 390 in there but sounds like its hard... also need to link up a new transmission, can't tell you whats in it right now, but i know its manual. let me know what you guys think.
Thanks!

How about the old 292? That would fit as if it were made for it, oh yeah it was!

391 cu in and it needs 'performance mods' ? But a fresh rebuild would be worth a couple grand anyways...... How fast you planning to go? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just old. Probably like your grandpas age. Oh and welcome to the 57-60 fridge club. We like all fridges and pictures too.....
