I Just wanted to let everyone know about the great results I got from Gearhead Automotive Tuning. Hauling the trailer below loaded with a horse and gear I got 15 mpg on a trip up to vermont and back from south jersey. My EGTs never went over 1100 and my oil and water temp deltas never exceeded 9 degrees, even on some nice steep grades. I was running the 8K Tow Tune.

I run his 8k tow as a daily driver now. It really helps the truck on responsiveness and imo MPG. I also have the SRL+ tune and that is really hard on the wallet because I cant keep my foot out of it. Since Im not yet studded I use the unlimited tow tune when im towing. Its basicly a trans only tune and the truck is very smoth with it.

 

I have his tunes as well and must say, i'm equally as impressed. However, does anyone have issues with the 2nd-3rd shifting and kind of 'bucking'? It seems like it almost revs too far and doesn't have enough time to get down to the correct RPM before it applys the power? To me,I think all that would need to be done is just have that gear shift a little sooner.. Need to call Matt on it, but just curious if anyone else notices it..

While I'm happy with the power and performance, my MPG went to hell when I installed the 8K tune. Loaded, I dropped from 17mpg with my old performance tune to 11mpg with the 8K, but I don't have to worry about blowing head gaskets anymore. I only made 1 run to Houston and back with it. Maybe the next load will look better.

 

if you like his tunes running around normally, put the trans in Tow/Haul mode...a whole other world awaits

Well I agree with this, I just received the tunes before heading to vermont so i didnt get to try out the SRL tune.....Yesterday I put it on the truck and WOW!!!! My only complainght about the tune is that I feel like I am driving on an ICEY road because is spins the wheels in every gear! In 4th gear going 45 mph, when I hit the skinny pedal to pass someone the truck spins the wheels!!!

I think I am going to use the 8k tow as a DD

 

I can't wait to get my studs in and truck back together... towing now is " nice" but could be better
