86 5.0l EFI ADO

I pull the engine and reinstalled and everything worked. I check the transmission fluid and it was dirty and brown. I dropped the pan and got a new filter and gasket. Nommeatal in pan and not a lot of stuff. I than drain the torque converter and add clean transmission fluid 6quarts out of the 12 required. Started the card and rand for 5 mins in park, move thru gears spending about 5min in each. No change in fluid level, color or tempeture?

Let truck run for 30 mins. Nor change in fluid? Truvk will move into gear but tuck will not move in any direction.... Any ideas.

It's too low on fluid to operate. It isn't going to move when it is 6 quarts too low. Also, the filter may not be installed right or may have fallen out.

Hopefully you haven't damaged the pump by running it dry for so long.

Oh great. I was told to put 6quarts in and start the engine then add another 4 quarts and then wait of the torque converter to fill and add as needed.

The filter can only go,one way and is bolted in. I triple check everything before putting the pan back on. It's only supposed to talk 12 quarts total.

So what's my next step?

I would put in 8 quarts then run the engine for one minute, no longer. Then put three more in, restart, warm it up, and use the last quart as needed to get it to the right level.

With yours put five more in and see what happens. It might be salvageable.
