I have a 2003 E-150 with a 3.55 rear end,4.6 V-8 and 154000 miles. I was looking to upgrade to a 2011 or newer. I only see that they have a 4.10 rear end. Can I get a 3.55?
Maybe check the size (dia/circumference) of the different tires, too.
The tires used seem to get "bigger" all the time, makes for "taller" effective gearing.
My Expy has the 4.10 rear, but with the 265/70-17 tires, it only turns 2000 rpm at 77 mph.
Good point. Currently I run stock 15" rims with Bridgestone Insignia's that are 28.9" in diameter. I get between 16-18 mpg. The 2011 that I was looking at has 16" rims with tires that are 29.4". Don't know if that makes a big difference, but I don't want to loose mpg's.
That isn't much difference between the tire sizes. Any way to check the trans gear ratios?
With all of the focus on fuel mileage over the last few years, it seems unlikely that Ford would change things to make it worse... unless the new Van is considered "heavier duty"
How do the EPA mileage figures compare? ... of course the way those numbers are figured has also changed - around 2008(??) I think.
Good luck.

The EPA rating for the 2011, I was looking at was 13city/16highway
My 2003's sticker says 14 city / 18 highway which is very close to accurate.
Check your speedometer against GPS & your odometer against 100 miles of interstate mile markers. You might find more error than the difference between tire sizes.
Transmission drive ratios changed w/the demise of 3:55 rear.
