Question on vgt actuator

o4 6.0 350 my truck is running entermittent, surge,stalling, loss of power, had the heads done 1 yr new egr, egr cooler, ficm, heater core ,tpc, tps, and did the Injector test all good, mec said rebuilt1/2 turbo, one day truck runs great , runs like crap the next. on both days foot into the pedle plenty of power, just wondering never really herd you guy talk to much about the vgt actuator and could this be one of many issues , codes thrown after heads0488 , p1334, p2290 codes were cleared and no lite has come on sence.sorry no code.

You can have codes without the CEL.

When was the last time you pulled the EGR valve and the EGR throttle plate to see if you might have a lot of carbon plugging things up?

I had two shops/ mecanics look about 6/8 months ago I've been dealing with this issue for over a year,I did notice when cool out doors for most of the day truck will run good .

Do you have a Scan Gauge II or equivalent? To help you we need more information that the gauge will give you.

no, money is short because of this truck now ,but all scans from others relate to the old codes, today truck ran good , 75deg out site temp, alittle buck at 80 degree, but thats normal it varires intermitent on outside and moter temp, notice oil residue on cfront oil cooler hose , turbo inlet,and injectors are good no oil spu, oil change 600mi , fuil filter due now but on regularbases, thinking carbon build with turbo not shur and egr agin , I'm an old fart that belives in my truck . 92 Chevy silv 1/2 ton 368 thou mi should hang over the fire place as antiqe but still drives me any were I need damit 350 Y are ford 6.0 O S?/?///f they by the way one recall on the 92. on the 04 12 recalls and still counting I still love this truck, So need the help to keep it onthe road,

A scangaugeII is $135 shipped. VERY wise investment IMO. If it runs better when it is cool outside, I woud REALLY want to know what the temperatures were (coolant and oil specifically). Could the difference be when you run the A/C?

I definitely don't understand what you said about running bad one day, but still having plenty of power. Probably need to explain to us what specifically is wrong.

When the EGR cooler was done did you get a new oil cooler?
Was the new EGR cooler an OEM EGR cooler or aftermarket?
What do you mean "heads were done"?
New heads or just head gaskets?
If you re-used the heads, were they machined?
What gaskets were used?
Who has done the work (especially the turbo re-build) - dealership or independent shop?

So you had all this work done a year ago and then someone looked at it again 6 to 8 months ago? Personally I would pull the EGR valve myself and see what it looked like, also do the same w/ the throttle plate.

thank you for your reply, I looked at the repair order and it dont say what brandegr they just charged 441.72 i can barly read the part # he did say all parts were from ford also heads were Independent shop , switch asy egr and valve asy mo noted on repair order , turbo he charged632.50 he said 1/2 turbo so you could be right on build up in egr and other hoses, the repair order was hand written and hard to read ,and I'm old every time I pop the hood I get pissed I dont know what every thing is part wise, they did note a vista pro heater core thats what started this hole mess.and the was hydro locked water in #2 cyl as far as the heads dont know if mech milled he did note clean steamed.
