Couple questions on the 6.7

Are any of you adding a diesel additive? (Dealership told me there was no need for it)

Does anyone know of places in Colorado to get biodiesel? (have some interest in it, but want to do more research on it first)

Looking to throw some new tires on the truck...want A/T but not sure what brand to go with. I used to run 35" BFG A/T's on my old truck, really liked them but found them a little bumpy (might have just been the truck though

Thanks!

Personally I use Power Service grey bottle in the summer, white in the winter. Diesel quaility is always decreasing. Additives will help boost cetane levels in lesser quaility fuel, keep the injectors clean and helps with lubrication.

The dealer is not likely to tell you to use an additive. It would be like admitting the engine needs a crutch...and it does!!!!

Ford PM22A additive is highly recommended for both Cetane increases and for "lubricity" increase. The HPFP in the new 6.7 diesel is a bit fragile...especially when exposed to US fuels. It was designed to run on fuels with about 12% more lubricity than the US standard. There are pages upon pages of discussion here and at RV.net discussing the issue. There is a discussion at RV.net that exceeds 100 pages with some fun stuff in it. Bosch has made several running changes in the CP4 series HPFP but even the latest version occasionally fails catastrophically with no warning...causing a repair bill of over $10,000...BTDT...

Regards

My Service Mgr at the local Ford Dealer recommends using an additive. He recommended Ford's or Stanadyne........

That is what I use and it was recommended by the dealer. My local dealer gives a bottle with each new 6.7 purchase.

I just tried howe's for a while. Didn't like it, I get better results from power service or the Motorcraft stuff.

A friend of mine that drives a rig (Detroit D60 I think) told me to get the am soil diesel concentrate. He swears he gets 2.5 mpg improvement and better overall performance. I know our engines are completely different but I might try it.

I have tried opti-lube but switched to the amsoil. I use the amsoil cetane and diesel concentrate additives. I usually add every tank, but may skip a tank. I think the mileage is up slightly with the additives, guess around 1 mpg.

Since I am in PA, and the state mandates 2% Biodiesl I feel the lubricity issue is covered, I use the additives for water seperation, and the cetane boost.

I've been using the Motorcraft PM22A for about 6 months. Before that I used Amsoil ADF for a while.

I'm going to stick with the PM22A because it's a Ford product. Also because I'm consistently getting a little better fuel economy than I was getting without it. Could just be coincidence, but I'm not going to stop using it to find out.
