1997 460 torque upgrades

I've posted a thread similar to this for fuel mileage but now I just want some more torque. 1997 Ford F-250 XL HD, 7.5/460, 4X4, E4OD automatic transmission. Everything is bone stock on this truck. There is no exhaust system after the cat converter, thinking about putting a stack or a straight pipe. But if I could get some suggestions how I can gain some more torque for a low price, that would be great. Thanks.

Basic "cheap stuff" would be headers, high flow cat and bump the ignition timing to 12* base.

These EFI 460s are pretty choked up and if you want much more than an additional ~40HP or so, you're going to need to look into head port-work and aftermarket camshafts. But by that point you're pushing the capabilities of the stock EFI system unless you have a mass-air truck.

The best torque increase I got with my 86 F250 4x4 460 C/6 was to advance the cam 4 degrees past TDC. I used a Cloyes roller three way timing set. I was amazed. I had 19 inches of vacuum @ idle. The second was a Hughes Towing HD converter.

The later EFI models use a 'straight up' timing set, unlike the carb models, making that mod unneeded.
