Uh huh. I want to take it to the dealership that thinks the 6.0 has a wastegate on the turbo or a DPF system. Yea, that has my vote. Not all are like that, but there is a scary percentage of those that are.

It's a 50/50 crap shoot as to getting a good indy or a good dealership service. Especially with the 6.0. Just too many misconception about that vehicle.

Now having said all those, I love my dealership. Great from sales to service, but that isn't the case. Hard to find some dealerships that are good at even one of those things, let alone both. Especially when people don't realize that sales and service are actually two different entities.

@Ron...a few things...
1st...being new to diesels & not an able mechanic I have tried to utilize Ford Dealers exclusively except when I am away somewhere & need an oil change..my feelings like yours is that they are trained in "Ford" engines...hopefully you get one...the one @my dealer likes his 7.3 & I usally discuss with him not as someone said service adviser..when I was in Fla had a code come up & dealer there wanted to charge me $1K & talked to mechanic over the phone at home & he advised against it...said it was related to remote start I have installed & has since advised I take it out.
NOW...gauges...is there anything in particular that you can recommend as you had stated for about $160 I can get some good readings....let me know....then I guess I need someone to install them.

AS far as good independents I wish someone could recommend one here in my area in NJ that I could go to...anyone...any suggestions...

BEFORE I LEAVE THIS NOTE I WANT TO THANK "ALL" OF YOU FOR ALL OF THE HELP, SUGGESTIONS, INFO HERE.

Eddie

Scan gauge II is the one that is $150 at autozone. It has allot of things it will monitor for the truck and best part is you dont have to have someone install it if you can plug in an electrical cord you can install this monitor. I say keep the truck.

****one more question....this one is for my wife...to answer her questions to me...and actually another as well while I am at it....
Wife...she seems to think that the truck being 100K warranty on engine the turbo & these problems should have been covered...I know my thoughts on this & she disagrees with.."ARGUABLY" ..can someone explain it so I can "EXPLAIN IT" to her...Thanks.
Next - dealer mechanic states that the remore start that the kids had installed in my truck is causing me problems & I should have it removed...what are your thoughts on Remote Starts & Diesels..???

I have a remote start by Astro-Start, the guys from Alaska recommended the unit, no problems. Like anything else, it is who installed the unit or what remote you have.

warranty on motor is 5yr or 100,000 miles. Whichever comes first.

it starts from the date the truck was orginally purchased.

so when did the prior owner buy her? You might get lucky and he bought it after today's date in 2007. Not likely...but it happens sometimes.

I really think you should visit the Dealership and have a "talk" with them. After that falls through, file a BBB complaint against them and file one with Ford as well. This sort of crap is exactly why Ford and the 6.0 have a bad reputation. Whoever spent $5,700 of your money took you for a ride. And they weren't even kind enough to share the lube.

I believe he said Fall of '05 (same time as when I got mine), so I would imagine that that would be a no go on that.

However, like I said, my dealership replaced the FICM under emissions warranty, but I don't know if the dealership was doing me a favor or not.

it depends on how they view it. I had a 2005 Durango that the Dealership replaced the PCM and every sensor on the top end. Quoted me over $2k for the bill. I went to pick it up and they said no charge because it was covered under Emissions.

doesn't hurt to ask the Dealership in the OP's case to see if some of his repairs are emissions covered

California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont are also covered by the California emissions warranty that is 7 yrs / 70k miles. For the rest of us w/ the 6.0L diesel, the emissions warranty is 5 yrs / 100k miles.

I was actually looking for some assistance on why disconnecting the battery would cause the smoke and power issues to resolve. It makes no sense to me.

That's interesting. I had well beyond the 70k and they still did it. I thought it was longer then that for emissions. Unless they went by the 7 yrs, then I'm there now with this fall. I got it either in August or Sept. in 05.

With this vehicle, there are alot of electrical components and even a loose connection can give you some horrendous effects that you wouldn't think would be the case.

Well the truck original owner purchased it in Fall of 2005...it is a 2006...so I guess that negates the the 5 yr mark...even though I only have 97K miles...even so the turbo, FICM/EGR would most likely not fall under engine 100K policy...at least that is what I was told by dealer. I know when I had purchased extended warranty when I bought truck in July 2007 the turbo seemed to be a separate item under the warranty...which also ran out last Oct 2011 & didn't have the funds at at the time to re-purchase...of course now I wish I could have borrowed the money...Hind Sight !...gets you all the time...in the Hind !
Am I right about turbo not being part of engine warranty ? and does that go for FICM/EGR as well ?

Like I said, my FICM was covered by emissions warranty, however, now that I look back on it, that could have just been my dealership doing a nice thing for me. I was well past the emissions warranty that bismic listed of 5yrs/100k. So I don't know what to tell you.

Rather you truck is tagged in NJ or NY(might be close enough to have it tagged there, things are like that in the border areas ( I don't know where Colonia is, so it could be on the other side of the state for all I know)), your past either yrs or mileage on either one. It doesn't sound like your dealership would be that helpful either anyway.
