IAT

Today it was 106* out with a 30mph headwind. I saw temps that I haven't seen before. My oil was 225*, trans 205* and coolant about 225*. What really surprised me was the IAT, it was 166* under the hood!! I don't know for sure if the scangauge reading for IAT are to be trusted but mine over the last few years seems to be accurate.

Let the truck completely cool down and check IAT in the morning. It should be real close to ambient temp.

Wow, that's hot under the hood! Mine is like 10 degrees over ambient at the highest. But then again, comparing my truck to yours isn't really valid. You're making far more power than I am.

Where do you have yours at glenn?

I think mines just sitting on the fender well, or I stuffed it in the fender. Don't remember.

Last time I checked my IAT, it was crazy high like that as well.

I will see what the temp reads this morning Mike. Glad your 'alive'.

Mine is also laying on the fender under the air cleaner Talyn.

Edit: IAT is 'intake air temp'. I should have said that in the orginal post.

My IAT usually stays within 5* of ambient when I'm cruising down the road. When I stop and let it idle though I've seen it creep up to over 150* though.

If you create ducting similar to what the orignal box had (and add insulation) so that you draw air from infront of (and around) the battery you will see a good drop in IAT readings.

That makes a fair bit of difference on gas engines... not sure about diesels...

Travis, Today I saw 174*, wow. In the morning it read 68* when it was 70* out. If I'm drawing in that hot of air maybe that's ONE of the high EGT's problems I have.

Richard, that might be a good idea. I have left the snorkle on but maybe the ducting would help. Sure can't hurt.

It was 107* today and I was hurting. Saw 227* on the trans and felt it slip a couple of times, here we go again for trans number three. If I can get it back home to AZ in Oct. then its off to get a John Woods.

Glenn, on the scan gauge what PID are you using? The correct one should be "Air Intake 2". Don't know what "Air Intake 1" does or if it would give you bad readings on higher temps, probably for 99 up ...

Checked mine today and it's close to ambient driving and about 10 degrees above ambient sitting, of course it's cooler up here in Oregon. Also check out the new Interceptor web site as they redesigned it and a bit more user friendly. Also the tech forums are an interesting read ...

Richard, I'm always ready for a 'deal' and it doesn't hurt to ask. Where are you?

I'll have to go look Jim, I don't remember of course! Very interesting link, thanks!
