on the top of the passenger side kick panel is a hole. stick your finger in the hole, and feel for a button. push the button and it should start.
if it is not the fuel pump inertia switch, there is also a relay in the system. not sure where it is on the 01 , but the 2000 it is in the dash roughly in the area of the radio.

The fuse for the fuel bowl heater is also the same fuse for the PCM relay, if you do not get a WTS light the PCM doesn't have voltage to it.
Other situations that will cause a scanner to not be able to communicate is the power for the OBDII port is powered through the fuse for the cigarette lighter.
Either way glad you got it fixed, did this PCM have a chip on it by chance?

yea I have 2 of these trucks both are the same quad cab 4x4 with 7.3. olnt difference is one is a xlt and ones a lariat, I have a 01 and a 03. I pulled the pcm out of the 03 and put it in the 01 and it fired right up. the big deal was finding the right one for my 01. Im fairly new to the diesel trucks as I have always had fx4 f150`s and lariat`s and one other f250 v10.
